Getting my tongue pierced was something I had thought A LOT about. I always thought it looked very cute on other people, and although I appear outwardly somewhat conservative, I thought it was quite erotic. Finally one night while sitting at dinner with my sister and a couple of friends, and after 2 margaritas, I said, this is it, we're going tonight. My sister is no stranger to piercings. She has her navel, both tragus and multiple ear piercings. She was totally supportive of the tongue piercing, even though she said that was one she would NEVER do herself. So, after we finished dinner we headed to the studio. We went to Artistic Skin design, the only place in Indy I would allow anyone to touch me with a piercing or tattoo needle.
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact anonymous@bme.anon When A month ago Artist Clint Studio Artistic Skin Design Location Indianapolis, IN Inside I asked for Clint, my favorite person there. He is very sweet and professional. I had to wait a while and while I was waiting, I got more and more nervous. I knew I wanted it done, but I work in a very public and professional area, and I knew from the get go this was going to be something I would need to hide while I was at work. After what seemed like forever he called my name.
We went back in to his piericing room. It was very clean and smelled like a doctors office which made me feel secure. He thouroughly explained the procedure and asked me if I was ready. I said yes and grabbed my sisters hand. Clint talked to me through the entire procedure. He asked me to swish this mouth rinse around my mouth and spit it back in to the cup. After that he drew the dot on my tongue and put the clamp on. I was thinking, just relax, its not going to be as bad as you expect. I closed my eyes, tried to breathe slowly and felt him put the needle it. That was it, it was over? Not bad at all. He put the jewelry in and I was done. No bleeding, and the worst part was the drool that was all over the bib he put on me.
I stopped and got my rinse and some popsicles and headed home. Immediately I took 800mg (4) ibuprofen tablets and kept drinking ice water and sucking on the ice. That night the pain wasn't bad at all. I tried to elevate my head while I slept and I think that helped some. The next morning which was Saturday, my tongue was quite swollen and was very painful. I tried to limit my talking because that REALLY made it hurt. I couldn't eat anything but ice and popsicles and pudding. I needed to lose 5 pounds anyway! LOL. I drank ice water and ate ice all day long, trying to minimize the swelling. I also took 800mg of ibuprofen every 6 hours during the first 5 days after my piercing. On Monday I had to go back to work. My tongue was still so swollen I couldn't speak normally. I was worried if I would ever talk normal again. It was on Monday I seriously considered taking it out. It was painful, I was starving and I couldn't do my job. I decided to go home for the day an d really take care of it. I was religious in doing my sea salt rinses. The next morning was the turning point. On the 4th day post piercing, my tongue wasn't as swollen and didn't hurt too much at all. I was able to eat some french fries for lunch and could talk a little more normally now. I was still worried someone was going to notice my new GIANT feeling stainless steel barbell. I went to see Clint and told him that it was kind of an emergency for me to get something less noticable. He doesn't like to change out jewelry before the end of the second week. For me, we decided to just change the top ball (an internally threaded 12g) to a internally threaded clear 1/2 ball. This worked great and was much less noticable.
Now it has been about 2 months. I LOVE my piercing. I'm so happy I had it done and have absolutely no regrets. My boyfriend who was somewhat aprehensive about it at first loves it too, and kissing is now an even more amazing expierience.
I would highly recommend giving this piercing a lot of thought, and if you get it done and want to take it out because you're frustrated, just give it 24 more hours, if you still feel the same you probably should take it out, but you might decide that it IS worth it in the long run. Mine gives me no problems what so ever now, and is very comfortable. I also have found some products to make it very discreet which was my primary concern.
Good luck everyone!
