It all started when I was 8 years old and I was in the line at a convenient store and I was looking at the cashier. He was about 19 and he had an industrial in his ear, this was the first I ever saw. I was mesmerized by its placement and the long barbell. He noticed at me staring at his ear and the stuck his tongue out to lick his lips and revealed another barbell in his tongue. I was shocked, but not in an appalled way, I was captured. I thought it was so beautiful and so unique. Ever since that day I had wanted my tongue pierced.
At A Glance Author Ali Contact dkbleed4me@yahoo.com When Six months ago Artist Brendan Studio Quillian Location Allentown, PA I started asking my parents for the piercing in 8th grade and of course their answer was no because of the stereotype tongue piercing had gained when they were my age. I gave up for a while and started asking again in 11th grade. Being the great businesswoman I am, I had them sold in about 4 months. Now between the age of 8 and 16 tongue piercing had grown in popularity and needless to say I was less then thrilled. I never liked being the norm and getting something because my friends had it, but I was still determined.
I had decided to make the piercing as my 17th birthday present. Finding a place didn't take much researching at all, I decided to go to the cleanest, friendliest, and experienced place in my city, Quillian. I had gone to the shop with my sister a year before to watch her get her navel pierced and I was pleased with the friendly service, the clean and bright atmosphere, and the superb service.
I walked into the shop with my mother and my good friend. We went around 7 o'clock and the shop was empty. I walked up to the desk and told the piercer what I wanted done and he showed me a variety of barbells to choose from, I went with the titanium. After he took my mother's and my Ids a few other people walked in to buy jewelry. The piercer asked me if I'd mind if he took the small jobs before he took me back and of course I didn't mind at all. I sat down on the bench in the waiting room and my mom was still a little unhappy about the whole decision. I noticed my face was beet red and fiery hot and I also felt a little lightheaded, I turned to my mom and told her that I was kind of nervous. She quickly snapped back freshly "you could just not do it." In hopes of me agreeing and skipping out with her to go have a talk about the new shoes at Macy's over a cup of mocha latte'.
After a few minutes he came out of the back room and told me to come back. We all walked back into a tiny room with an old dentist chair, a solid wall of mirrors, and a wall of drawers and cabinets. He put on 3 pairs of gloves and took out all the equipment. My adrenaline was pretty high at this point so most of the stages skip in my mind. But I remember him marking my tongue and asking me if I approved. I asked him to take it back further and he took it back about a millimeter. I was satisfied and he clamped my tongue and told me to breath in and on the count of 3 to breath out. I closed my eyes and in 3 I felt the smallest pinch. People had told me the piercing was painful, but my tolerance for pain is extremely high so most body mods don't faze me. He put the 12g barbell in and showed me a mirror; I was the happiest girl in town. He told me how to clean it and all the precautions and I went on my merry way.
The next 3 weeks were a bitch, the swelling got on my nerves by the end of the first week. I did everything I was told to do and then some because my ear piercings had always gotten infected and I refused to have my tongue get infected simply because of the repercussions. I went back to the shop 3 weeks later and bought a new barbell and I've been satisfied ever since. Its my favorite piercing and I recently almost lost it to jail but I refused. I gave up my viper bites without a fight, but my tongue was a different story. I recently started gauging my tongue because my parents wont let me get any more piercings until I'm 18. So until I can go buck wild on my 18th birthday I decided to work on my tongue.
I recommend this piercing for anyone with patience. Its not fun having a swollen tongue for 2 weeks and talking funny for one. Only go to a good place and always get what you want, don't ever let a piercer talk you into anything your not happy with, if they do, they don't deserve the business.
