So I guess I should begin with some background information. I am 15 years old and I got my first piercing (navel) when I was 13. I fell in love with piercing, and so my story begins.
It all started one day while sitting at work. I saw an old friend and she told me that she was going to get her tongue pierced for her birthday. I thought to myself that's pretty cool and did not think about it again. Then about a week later one of my co-workers came up to me and showed me his brand new tongue piercing. After that I wanted one really bad. So I went home and did a little research. I looked for pictures, stories, and of course studios in my area. I found The Hole Experience. I called up the studio to find out how much it would cost and what I would need to bring since I am under age. I knew it was a good clean place because several of my friends have gotten piercings from there. And they have really good piercers and have won several awards. Now all I had left to do was convince my parents...
About a week later on the way home from work I asked my dad if I could get it pierced. He said he did not have a problem with it but I would have to pay for it myself. I was so excited! I asked him if I could get it pierced the next day after work, and he said that would be fine. So, I got everything that I needed for the next day together, school id, social security card, and birth certificate.
The next morning I woke up so pumped! I was finally getting my tongue pierced! When 6:00 finally rolled around I ran out into the parking lot and jumped into the car. Then me, my best friend, and my dad were off.
When we finally got to the studio I was so nervous. We walked in and filled out all of the necessary paperwork while Michelle was finishing another costumer. Finally she came out and explained aftercare and the procedure, asked me if I was sure I wanted to go through with this, let me pick out my balls, and made sure their were no veins in the way. She brought me into the piercing room and put my jewelry into the autoclave. Then she started unwrapping and laying out all her supplies. After I rinsed out my mouth she dried it off and marked my tongue. The first placement was a little too far back so she moved it up a little. Then she looked under my tongue again to make sure she would not hit any veins. She clamped my tongue, and opened up a new needle. She set the needle on my tongue and told me to take deep breaths through my nose. Half a second later the three inch needle was sticking through my tongue. I never felt a thing! Then she took my sterilized jewelry out of the au toclave and put it in my tongue. She explained to me once more the aftercare instructions and asked me if I had any questions. Since I did not I just paid her $40 and left. On the way home I stopped and got some crushed ice, then we went to 3 of my friend's houses to show them because I just could not wait.
For the next 3 days I constantly ate ice and rinsed my mouth out with Biotene and sea salt. Nothing was as I expected though, I could eat just fine, it was not sore and I did not have a lisp. Everything was so normal that my supervisor did not even realize that it was pierced until I told her 2 weeks later. Within 3 weeks my piercing was pretty much healed. I changed it for the first time a month after I got it done. I love my tongue ring, and now a year and a half later I still have not had any problems. Although, I did bite it really hard one time and it hurt like hell. I also left it out one all night once and I woke up freaking out. It started to heal and formed a thin layer of skin over the bottom hole, but I pushed my barbell through it anyway and it was just fine. I think I have developed an emotional attachment and I would have to see a psychologist if I ever have to take it out!
For anyone considering getting this pierced I highly recommend it. The piecing process is not painful and the aftercare is pretty easy. They are also very easy to hide for school or work. HOWEVER, YOU SHOULD NEVER PIERCE YOURSELF! It's very dangerous and unsanitary!
