For the last couple of months, I have really been wanting a piercing. I have 7 tattoos , but no piercings and I was curious to what they are like. I did a lot of research on piercings and talked to a lot of people I knew who had them . I browsed the bmezine galleries almost every day trying to figure out what I wanted to get. I decided to get my tongue web pierced because I thought it was an unusual piercing and I liked the way it looked. I also like the idea that no body knew you had it done unless you tell them.

Many of the places I called said they didn't do tongue web piercing because they were a pain in the neck. The area is just too small to pierce like you would pierce another area of your body. The piercer has to use a curved, or bent needle, and work in a very small and awkward space, so many piercer avoid the piercing all together. If a piercer did do the piercing, they usually charged between $50 to $80. I found a guy near where I am living who said he would do the piercing for $35, ring included.
I went in to talk to the guy and he seemed nice enough. I asked how many times he had done a tongue web piercing before and he said about 10 times. He said he had been doing the piercing for 4 year though. I figured that even though 10 doesn't seem like a lot, it was such an unusual piercing, so it didn't bother me too much. I didn't have the money right away to get it done that day, so I decided to get it done the next day.
The next day, I went in with a friend who was going to get his ears pierced. When I first got in, I panicked and didn't want to get pierced anymore, but the next thing I knew, I was filling out the consent form.
The piercer then went into his room to get everything ready to go. I paid special attention to how he set everything up. I was glad to see that he changed his gloves multiple times after touching something that could contaminate the piercing. I was surprised at how small the ring was. I don't know what I expected, but the ring he put in was a cute little silver and grey one. Then he told me to come sit in the chair and handed me some Listerine to disinfect my mouth. I swished that around for a while and my mouth felt a little numb. Then he sat on the chair with me and had me to lift up my tongue and open my mouth wide. He said to close my eyes and take a deep breath. When I let it out, I was pierced. I can honestly say that the actual piercing was not that bad. Not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was shaking the whole time he was setting up, but once he started to pierce, I was very relaxed. It took the guy a while to get the ring in just right and to get t he little ball on it. I felt like I was at the dentist.
So after he finished he gave my after care directions which said basically to rinse with Listerine after I eat or drink and to rinse with sea salt and warm water. It has been about two hours now since I got the piercing done, and it is little sore. He said it would swell a little and that it should be healed in about two weeks. I would advise to be careful when eating things at first...it doesn't really get in the way, but it is just a little weird having a metal ring in your mouth where you didn't before. It is recommended that you eat soft foods for a while just until you are used to your piercing.
Overall, I think this is a pretty cool piercing. I was very happy with the way it looked. Plus the actual process of getting it pierced was pretty painless. The only bad thing I can say about it is that my tongue is pretty sore now, but the piercing is still new, and that should probably go away in a little while. I also recommend that if you are considering getting this piercing, that you go to a professional. I have heard stories about people doing it themselves, and having gone threw the process, I think it is definitely a bad idea to do that.
