Okay well this is my web piercing experience. Please keep in mind that I didn't do this the right way by any means, and that this piercing takes place over a time period of 3 days. The first time I had my web pierced was when I was 13, a friend of mine thought it would look cool and I thought it would too so she pierced it for me. However, it stayed in for about 4 hours or so, because I found that I couldn't eat with it in, and once it was out I couldn't get the ring back in.

Now, armed with oral fixation, a sewing needle and small 14 ga. CBR, I am prepared to try again. With relatively no pain I shoved the needle through, using one of those small pink erasers to hold the other side. I was drooling horribly and I wanted to laugh when it started to drip down my chin, but I stopped myself. After a minute or so of holding my mouth open and letting the needle just sit in the hole, I started to move it back and forth, hoping to accustom my web to a foreign object. 1, 2, 3... I pulled the needle out... It hurt more coming out than it did actually going in. I picked up the ring, I tried to push it in through the hole, but no dice. So, I tried again, starting from scratch. Needle in, Needle out. But still, the ring wouldn't go through! After 2 more attempts to get the ring in, the underside of my tongue was bleeding and sore and although I really wanted to get that jewelry in, but I knew that I wasn't going to get it in that day so I put away everything (throwing the needle out, of course), rinsed with some Listerine and went back to the computer to chat and check out different experiences on BME.

Okay now it's 2 days later, a Monday as I recall, and it's just me, and my two best friends, Sherika and Krystal sitting around the hallway and talking about body modifications. I told them about my failed attempts to pierce my web, and about how I really wish I could have found a larger needle (I felt this would have made a difference). I don't know how many of you have seen a kilt pin but if I had to guess what gauge it would be, I'd estimate between a 12 and a 10. My friend said that if I could shove that through my web, I would more than likely get the ring in, too. So after a thinking for a minute, I decided that she was probably right, and proceeded to shove it through, sans eraser. It hurt quite a bit more than the sewing needle, and it took quite a bit longer to get it all the way through, but I did it. Go me.

But only after the needle was in did I realize that I didn't have a ring to put in it. Sher said she had a new 16 ga ring in her purse she hadn't used yet, and she said I could have it to put in. Obviously, having been pierced with such a large needle, the ring went in without a problem. But I'm diabetic, and now I was hungry, not to mention I had a French presentation the next period, so I really couldn't afford to pass out. After a quick trip to the cafeteria for some food I started to chow down. Bad idea. I kept feeling the ball under my tongue, and since I wasn't used to it, my tongue unconsciously tried to push it out from under, thinking it was food. In any case, it ripped. Badly. There was blood, but not an enormous amount, and I had to run to the drug store to get some Listerine to make sure it didn't get infected, but I arrived in class only 10 minutes late.

I did my presentation, slurring the whole time because of the ball, but my mark wasn't too bad. I passed at least. I rinsed with Listerine when I got home, and tried not to open my mouth too big when I spoke— my mom would have killed me. AND, I took the ball off (I left the ring there) when I ate. After a day or so I noticed a sort of white growth around the piercing. It scared me a little, but I knew it was part of the healing and it would go away eventually. And it did.

It's been 6 months now, and even through the huge rip and the migration, this piercing has made me very happy. Currently I have an oversized 12 ga barbell in it, and I generally have half of it sticking out of my mouth. If you want to get this piercing I recommend that you get it done professionally. The healing time was quick and easy, there was very little pain involved and it makes for great fun when you're bored. Just be careful when you eat for the first bit!
