I decided to get my tongue pierced a few years back. That's when I found out that I was tongue-tied. This is when my tongue is attached close to the tip. They had told me since I have that, that I couldn't get my tongue pierced.
I was really upset and asked around to other piercing studios what they thing and they had told me to ask my doctor or my dentist to snip it.
I was really mad, and asked my doctor and my dentist, and they both had said no. That was because they told me it wasn't a necessity to my heath. So I gave up.
In October, I was searching around on BME, and saw the tongue web piercing. I went down to the piercing shop down the street from my school to find out about the piercing its self and the prices. The shop was mostly a tattoo shop, with piercing on the side. The inside is very clean and cool. They have a bunch of cool stuff to look at around the room. Tim the piercer told me about how he'd need to know in advance about when I wanted to get it done, because he need to shorten a needle. I decided to get in done November 2, so it can be healed by Christmas time so I can party. While it's healing you have the same procedures of a tongue piercing. By which I mean, no yeast, no smoking, and no oral sex.
The day came to get it done, and I was really nervous. I had a big meal at MacDonalds and like 10 smokes since it was my last day to smoke for like a week. I only lasted 4 and a half days but it was better then the one day with my lip piercing. I had to rinse out my mouth with the mouthwash. Tim didn't use a clamp; he prefers to do it without. It took him a while to decide how to put it in. Once he found a way he was comfortable with, he told me to take a deep breath and hold it.
It pinched somewhat for a second and that was it. Tim gave me a choice if I wanted a 16, short banana barbell, a 16g, small hoop, or a 16g, horseshoe barbell. I chose the 16g, horseshoe barbell. He changed the piercing and put the jewellery in with no pain. The hard part was yet to come. Putting that last ball on was really hard; the problem is that I have a very small mouth. Once it was in it was fine, he took a picture of it and I paid him $75 plus a two-dollar tip.
The healing process for me was longer and harder then what I was told. It wasn't fully healed until two months after. I had a little puss but nothing to bad, the only problem was that a keloid like bump formed on one side. It went away on its own in about a week. I still can only chew on the left side of my mouth. Chewing was hard for the first while because it hurt to move my tongue around to side to side, but up and down was fine.
I went to get it changed to a 16g, small hoop. It was a lot of trouble to take off the balls to the jewellery that was in. I had to go back the next day because he had to go pick up new tools that were smaller. He was happy about it though, because he needed more tools anyway for future customers. The problem was, was that the hoop was way to big, and I wore it for a week of torture. I was having trouble talking and it was hurting my gums in the bottom. Whenever I would talk, the tip of my tongue would get caught inside of the hoop. That would make the hoop pull up a bit, which really didn't tickle. I then got that changed to a 16g, eyebrow clear plastic plug, which I can barely feel, but the piercing is still there for when I find the perfect jewellery. You can barely see it so when I go to the dentist next month he won't see it or I won't have to take it out for my x-rays. I'm still having problems with calcium build-up. For everyone with this piercing I strongly recommend getting a small child's tooth brush to brush the jewellery because the calcium deposits on the jewellery look and feel gross. Overall this is my favourite piercing to date. I would still like to get my tongue done normally, but I will have to live with out it, but this is just fine for me. I want to find a really cool ring to put in it.
