It was the week before my 18th birthday. I was sitting in my religions class pondering about what I am going to do to mark my 18th birthday. So I leaned over to my friend, and said, "lets go get our tongues pierced." he was definitely all about it, as was myself. The week seemed to go by so slow, and finally that friday came. Right after school we drove to 252 Tattoo. We sat in the waiting room flipping through the paperwork, and waited for the piercer to come take us into his "office". After a short while he finally came, and asked us who was going first. My friend decided to go seeing that I was really nervous, and about to throw up. He got in the chair and took it like a champ, but it seemed like he worked up his nerves, and passed out right after the piercing was done! I was totally freaked out to go. After the short while after my friend woke up, I got in the chair, and the piercer got ready. He was training a new girl, and explaining the process as she watched. he poi nted out that my veins were slightly in an odd position, so he would have to pierce slightly off center, I was cool with it. I swished my mouth with some nasty yellow listerine, and then he dried my tongue off. He then made the small guiding dot, and then affixed the clamps. He kept telling me to relax, and just let my tongue stay limp, I kept pulling my tongue near my mouth as the muscles in my tongue quivered with fear. He gave me a warning, and told me he won't pierce it if I don't relax, so in that case, I took a few deep breaths and calmed down, he quickly jabbed the needle through my tongue, it was virtually painless. He then put in the jewelry, and had me swish one more time. I gave him a nice tip for putting up with me. He gave me care instructions, and sent me on my way. On the way home I kept looking in the rearview mirror at it, I was mesmerized. I got home, and my mom said "where have you been?" I just stuck out my tongue, that said enough. She didn't talk to me for the remainder of the night.

I went out with my friends for dinner, I ate normally. Then next day our family went out for dinner, and I couldnt eat a thing, so I got a bowl of ice cream, that eased the swelling a little bit. I had to go to work on the third day, and I found that I couldn't say the number six, and mot "s" words. I had the biggest lisp, and it only lasted a few days. A few weeks later, I decided to go barbell shopping, but I was really nervous about changing it. I was even considering going back to the piercer and getting it changed. I decided to step it up, and do it myself, changing it was virtually as easy as a regular earring. I've had it for a few months now, and have gotten turned down by a few jobs because of it, but really thats it. I was forced by my current employer to put a clear barbell in, which is fine, because I can change it at night.

If anyone is thinking about getting this piercing, I would highly recommend it. One, it is really painless. As you read above, you can probably tell that I don't have a high tolerance for pain. If I can do it you can too! Two, it looks god on most people, and I'm sure you will like the attention too! People naturally flack to people with new piercings and ask all these questions, if your happy to answer peoples questions, then get it done! Three, As most people have heard, it can enhance the pleasure factor in oral sex. If your a fan of oral sex, do it for someone!

An update on my friends piercing, he didn't really have good luck with his. His mother didn't approve, and he was kicked out of his house. He still is going strong with it, and hasn't changed the barbell yet. yikes! Just a note, when you get your tongue pierced, they give you a pretty long barbell so it can withstand the swelling. If you leave it in, you find yourself biting down on it, and sometimes chipping teeth, it can be very painful. I suggest people change theirs after a month or so. I haven't had any problems with the shorter barbell, I have bitten on it once or twice by accident, but nothing like swallowing the balls or anything like that.
