My tongue piercing,
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact anonymous@bme.anon When It just happened Artist ummm dunno! Location Norfolk,England I am so scared of needles and have always chickened out of injections throughout my life however I already had 8 piercings, [tragus, belly, and ear lobes] and decided I wanted my tongue pierced.
I went along to the studio and was asked to fill in a consent form which I did,the studio looked very very clean and has a very good reputation which was important to me. I was told the general do's and dont's before being taken into a room. The room was white and looked very clean and pictures of the blokes kids were around which made me feel more relaxed. He asked me to poke my tongue out and he checked out my "very big veins"! he then sprayed my tongue with a numbing agent which is gross but i was determined for this to be as pain free as possible so I kept it there. After a minute or so I checked to see if it had worked and it hadn't and I began to panick but I was reassured by the man that it took a little longer to work!!! nerves eh!Then he showed me the bar [its massive] and the needle all in their packets and sterile,he asked me if this was ok and i said yes.
Anyhow then the clamps were applied and he double checked where he wanted to pierce asked me if it was ok. I agreed. [slightly off centre as I had big viens]
Then I closed my eyes and a few moments later I felt a very very slight stinging/pinching sensation through my tongue as the needle passed. I swear down it does not hurt.Tragus is far far more painful. He screwed the ball on and said "ok,all done".I breathed a sigh of relief.
I turned over looked in the mirror and my bleeding tongue, not that much though surprisingly,i rinsed etc and went to show my boyfriend! He thought it was cool and then I came over all dizzy, they took me back through to the room and I laid down on the bed and listened to the fan whirl. I felt better after 5-10mins and during this time I was told again how to rinse my mouth [salty water sea salt NOT table] or mouth wash which I bought DONT just go by one cos they can be very drying and hurt more. I was advised not to smoke for a couple a hours afterwards and to rinse thoroughly after doing so. It does really delay healing so unless you really have to -Dont
That night I was so hungry, I strongly recommend eating tons and tons before having it down.I tried eating baby food but I couldn't and the smell made me gag. I was ok to swallow water and tablets but NOTHING else.
The next morning [today] I woke up in awful pain my tongue is double its size and is very uncomfortable! I took some IB profen which helps and sucked on ice, though this hurt as it kept hitting my barbell, but ice cold water helps lots. Also dissolving Asprin in water and holding it in the mouth for 1min helps with swelling. I rang into work and cried to my boss [v.embarassing] about how much it hurt though I don't think they could understand me!
I managed to eat A crisp today and a bowl of soup, it wasn't painful and i managed to swallow with little problem. The only thing I hate is the fact that my glands are all swollen and i feel like i have flu, my salivary glands are working overtime making me drool like a dog. That sucks but I know it will all go after a few days so I'm trying to keep my spirits up it would be easy to get depressed though!I wouldn't say its pain as in pain its uncomfortable and irritating as you don't realise how big a part your tongue plays in everything you do. Nevertheless it looks really cool and I don't regret [so far] having it done.
My advice in summary
1.Eat lots before you go in
2. Make sure you chose a place which is reputable
3.Make sure you have Asprin,IB profen ,Paracetamol and a bloody ice cube tray [ I had none and searching superstores in the middle of the night with a swollen tongue is not fun]
4. Soup [ not too hot though],ice cream etc
5.Friends/boyfriend who are symapthetic and dont mind drool
6. Dont kiss or have oral sex during the healing time
7.E-mail me with any queries or a update on how mine is going!
GOOD LUCK!!I know it will be well worth it you really just have to patient and keep rinsing. Also I would recommend to do lots of research before going through with it. Oh and one last thing don't try to hide it,you won't be able to trust me.
