A month ago my piercer (he's perforated me 15 times or so now, so I feel I'm allowed to use the possessive) started his "Winter Sale" when all piercings are reduced to £15 :D. I went to a couple of highly mundane classes, which I couldn't concentrate in as I was so excited. I knew exactly what I wanted A rook to Anti-tragus industrial with a manipulated barbell to accommodate the shape of my ear. But Nick said he couldn't do it without deforming my ear and as I'm going to be a teacher I can't have any severe visible body-mods. So I decided on my tongue web.

It wasn't a completely spur of the moment thing, I had discussed it with my girlfriend who had told me "No" and that was the end of it. I really liked the pictures I saw on BME, hidden piercings excite me, because they're so personal, you can wear a suit and conform but you know you'll never be the same as "them others" but they don't.

That's beside the point I asked Nick if he'd done them before and he said yes and there'd been no problems and I figured if you can have a frenectomy, then there should be no problems having a wee hole in it.

SO I lay my head back and got another hole, it took about 10 minutes to screw to ball onto the barbell and I produced a lot of saliva. But it was the least painful piercing I've ever had. I went to work that night, I do telesales so my speech is important but there was problems and I quite happily eat cheese on toast. Everything was rosy, I showed it to my more mature teachers and they were disgusted which put a smile on my face. But because I'm 6 foot 3 I had to put myself in weird positions on order for anyone to see it. All of which was a bit of a pain in the arse. But it did look mighty pretty. And no one else I knew had one or had heard of it before so that was another bonus.

Then the swelling began. Within a week my tongue web, which had started with 5mm of bar each side of it was starting to enclose the balls as well, it was really worrying and had a nasty discharge. So I went back to Freedom, and they were really good about it and gave me a much bigger curved barbell. It took 25 minutes to do it all though! By the end of which I had a very sore jaw indeed. But my tongue web was much for comfortable and the bar was more visible and I was really pleased. (Even my girlie became quite fond of it) Then about a week and a half ago, I was in my car, and one of the balls came loose and fell off in my mouth; I managed to find it fortunately but when I got home and tried to put it in, I just couldn't, wether my hands are too big or my mouth is too small but I just could not get the ball back on. I even tried changing it for a CBT but that didn't work either. I was really sad cos Id grown quite fond of "webby" (no I didn't really name it) but I just gave in because Id been given nothing but hassle. And I'd given so much.... £15!

Well that's it, I was fond of how my tongue web looked but it wasn't worth the money. I know I was just one of the unlucky ones because I read a lot of problem free piercing stories on here, another thing that helped persuade me have it done. And my other piercings have never been problematic at all with minimal swellings however. I have replaced my tongue web and a couple of other surface piercings now, and I'm much happier with them, although relatively new piercings are fun, sometimes there's a reason why they're not very common. Because of rejection etc. If you want your tongue web done I'd say go for it, because the reactions they provoke are fantastic and it does make you feel special but if I were you, Id ask for a curved barbell and if it does work really well, please don't tell me because I'll cry.

Another thing I'd like to mention (I know this is going on a bit is probably becoming highly tedious but I have to fill my quota) is that I couldn't actually stick my tongue out properly for about four or five days, this may be something you want to consider if you have just fallen in love/lust with a boy or girl or a lollipop.
