So I have been awake for about the last 2 weeks thinking about getting my tongue pierced, waiting for my mum to leave town so I could safely get it done and healed before she could start the whole 'if we were meant to have metal through our skin we would have been born with it.... ' lecture. hypocrite, she has piercings too! I don't know why I was so excited about getting it done... its just a hole in the tongue, but something has always intrigued and excited me about all forms of body modification. I have 3 rings in each ear lobe, 1 in right upper cartilage, 1 in left lower cartilage and my belly done.. and now my tongue, my favourite.

Anyway, I decided on Tuesday (2 days ago) as my day, got my best friend Ali lined up to hold my hand... and in we went! So I filled in the forms etc, then they asked me for ID. I got out my wallet, looked for it.. Looked some more.. "OH GOD ITS NOT IN THERE!" I nearly cried.. I always have my ID with me, but not today. Never fear, somehow I got away with it, and he let me do it anyway. I then. met my piercer, Hayden, and we walked into the little cubicle thing where my fate would lie. I asked if Ali could come in too, but he wouldn't let her... I hugged her before I went in, and it was as if I was going to war or something like that... crazy I know. So she wished me well... and off I went!

So Hayden showed me into the very clinical room & asked me to sit down. At first it was a bit intimidating, but there were some awesome posters around for me to keep occupied with.. Then I sat down on the comfy chair.. and the procedure started! he was getting out all of these really scary looking instruments, huge long needles, trays.. More trays, different sized surgical barbells, creams, lotions... you name it. He then started mixing up inky stuff to mark my tongue. So we got onto the subject of music, one of my favourite things.. And it turns out he has an awesome band, so we chatted about that for a while... and I got the inside news on some of the awesome music festivals coming up!

First of all, I had to gargle some really feral tasting mouth wash for 15 seconds, which wasn't too bad seeing as I though I would have to do it for 1 minute. Then it was time for me to shut up.. he asked me to poke out my tongue... but no matter what I did, I couldn't get it out far enough because I was so tense. That and the fact I really didn't want to dribble all over myself and him.. So he told me to just relax, I did.. and it was all good.

He started by marking where it would be and asked me if that was ok. I was a bit worried that it was too close to the front of my tongue, but he assured me it would just fine there.. so I took his word for it... then he clamped me (totally painless... he told me that he never clamps tight because if I fainted, it would be a whole world of pain all round) then made sure the little purple marking was in the very middle of the clamp.. so now the fun really really begins!

He dried my tongue off with this papery stuff... and although I had tried so hard not to, I dribbled all over him. I felt really bad, but I'm sure he's very used to it. Then he put some cream on it... To slightly numb the area, told me to relax.... and before I could even ask if it was going to hurt, it was through! no pain.. I say that seriously! NONE! then he just put the jewellery in... and went through all the after care etc. it bled a little.. not too much, and I am now a very happy owner of a tongue ring!

I made an appointment for my 2 week check up where I can downsize and make sure that things are running smoothly. A few friends have since told me that I didn't swell nearly as much as you usually do.. I ate dinner (mushed vegetables) the night I got it.. And ice/ice cream is my new best friend (any excuse will do) I'm really excited about going and getting some new jewellery... and possibly a new piercing some time next week (tragus and labret here I come.. !!). A friend is even buying me one of those vibrating rings.. Should be interesting!

So yes, I would highly and totally recommend getting your tongue pierced.. Although given the choice over, I would probably get a venom instead.. Maybe another day?!?
