I've wanted to get a tongue ring since I was about 10, I thought they were one of the coolest piercings because they look like they hurt, but you don't have to show it to anyone unless you want to (seeing how it's concealed and all). So I kept thinking about it. I waited until about a month before my 15th birthday and I started really researching the topic a lot online. I read about hundreds of people's personal experiences, checked out tons of photos, and checked up on aftercare and what not. I printed out all the pertinent information and told my parents that I wanted to get the piercing. My mom automatically started saying that it wasn't a good idea and she said stuff like "Your tongue will be paralyzed" and "You'll crack all of your teeth". But, I presented her with all of my print outs and stuff and she was still a little leery. Then I said that it's a type of art and she totally agreed (being an artist herself". My dad had no objections having piercings and tattoos of his own he was in no point to preach against it. They finally agreed

So I made an appointment at the place. I went in and we were like ½ an hour early for the appointment but the piercer didn't have anyone in there so she did me, she took me into a room that was flawlessly clean and looked very sterile there were trays with sealed tools and a large dentist chair in the center of the room. She retrieved my paperwork and made me fill it out and had my dad sign it. Then she went to a cabinet and poured a small amount of medical grade mouth wash into a disposable cup and told me to rinse for one minute with it then spit it into the sink, I complied. She then told me to sit down in the chair and relax I did and then she grabbed one of the tools on the table it was a standard pair of medical clamps the ones wit h the long handles and the u shaped end. She said "now this is going to be the worst part" and she clamped the tongs down on my tongue made a mark. I nodded to signify that the positioning looked good to me in the mirror. Then she walked away to the other side of the room and left me there for like a minute. Then she walked slowly over to me and looked at the spot for a second then like a lighting bolt she stuck the needle through my tongue and but a barbell in it and tightened the ends. Then she poured more of the mouth wash junk into another disposable cup and made me rinse again. She checked the piercing and then gave me a sheet of aftercare rules. I paid and thanked her then I went on my way. My tongue was sore right after it and for the first day after it. I was talking with a bit of a lisp and my speech was kind of garbled. I was also frustrated when I noticed on the aftercare sheet it said no dairy products for a week. I had to immediately run out and buy a ton of n on-dairy creamer for my coffee.
The piercing didn't hurt much and it was well worth it. I recommend it for any one who is considering it. It is on my top ten list of the best looking piercings. It is also very concealable so if your work or school has any problems with it you can still get it and no one will have any clue that you even have it. But, it's also nice to show it off sometimes. You wouldn't believe how many times I got stopped in the hallway and asked to show it. Since I first got it I have stretched it from a 14 gauge to a 10 gauge. I must say that it feels great now that I've had it for a while, the only time it gives me any problems is when I eat Ramen Noodles because occasionally a stray noodle will wrap it's self around my barbell and I've kind of got to reach in and pull it off. It looks really good though and I love it. I'm attached to it now if I take it out to clean it at all I feel sort of "naked" for lack of a better word. Oh, another thing don't worry about swallowing it because i f you do swallow anything it will most likely be the ball off the end of the stud not the bar. I have swallowed a ball by accident myself so I can dispel the rumor that you will die if you swallow it, unless you have one of those flashing ones then I'm not so sure, you might get sick off the chemicals in the battery if it happens to leak or something.
