It took me a while but I finally ventured out of the safety of my ears. So, I decided that I wanted to go get my first non-ear piercing, it's not that I don't love them, and that they didn't hurt, it just felt like the right time in my life to more forward. There are many piercing I had been considering and still plan to get, but the tongue web seemed so unique and beautiful that it had to bless its presence in my mouth.

I called my best friend, who always goes with me on my piercing adventures, and I told her what I was thinking about getting. She thought it would be cool, so I told her not to make any plans Thursday night because I was getting a new piercing. The days went by and Thursday came, I was so excited, and when I got down to the shop I found that they had closed early for the night because they weren't getting any business. Damn.
So the next day, I went down a little earlier and found Body Piercing Unlimited still open and went on in. I walked in and the counter girl asked me what I was going to get today. I told her I wanted to get my tongue web done. She looked up at me from filling out the paperwork and said "hold on just a sec." and ran around the corner to get Jason, my piercer. He just wanted to make sure that my tongue web was big enough to hold the piercing, and sure enough I have a kick ass sweet spot. So I then proceeded to fill out the paper work, pay my money and show my heinous I.D.
We had to sit on the couch for fifteen minutes while my CBR was being sterilized, but it felt like only five and at the time I felt like it really wasn't enough time.
I was really nervous when I went back, I think it was because I was afraid of what my anti-body modification family was going to say or do to me when they found out, or it could have been that I was scared of a freak accident causing the needle to go through my cheek instead. I went on anyway, and hopped up onto the big creepy medical bench. Before Jason did anything we talked about the migration rate of these piercings and how they tend to reject more than the average piercing. I said I known and we went on with the show.
After our migration talk another piercer there asked if it was okay if she watched, she had never seen a tongue web done before and would really like to learn how. I told her I didn't care. First I had to rinse my mouth out with Listerine, I hate the stuff, makes me have flash backs to when I was five and I swallowed a bunch at the dentists office and then puked it all over the dentist carpet. After the Listerine came the marking, Jason showed Tanya everything he did along the way so it was making things go a little slower than usual, but no biggie. Now came the needle part, which is actually my favorite part, call me sick but I like it. The piercing wasn't bad the needle seemed to just slide right through my web. The CBR on the other hand was a pain in the ass. First off, I have a really small mouth and Jason had a problem sticking his large fingers in to get the ring in, so he had to pull out the tools for help. I had been holding up my tongue for a really long time b y now and I can only hold it up for so long, to make a short story even shorter I ended up gleeking (shooting spit at ) Jason and getting a "Dude, gross." When it was all over I had to show everyone in the shop my new piercing, everyone thought it was super cool and they now have a new inside joke about wearing long gloves.
I left the shop and I could feel my tongue web swelling. I decided a quick stop at a gas station for nice cold water wouldn't hurt. I went out with my friends for a little while after my experience to go do some car shopping but when it turned into a lost cause we called it a day. When I dropped off everyone when tongue web was swollen but it really didn't hurt and from what I heard there was no problems with my speech, except for the occasional clicking of the ring against my teeth.
When I got home I discovered most of my family to be at my mom's house so I thought I would test it out and see if anyone noticed. Nope, sweet deal. When my brother came home I pulled him down into his room and lifted up my tongue to show him. He responded with "Kick ass, oh you aren't going to show mom that are you?" I thought about it for a while and decided to tell her when everyone went home; I thought it was something that she needed to know. So at 11 at night I broke the news to her and I wish I hadn't. The yelling went on for about twenty minutes, such topics as "mutilation", "psychiatric help" and "I don't care if you legally an adult!" were discussed. In the end I won, I wore her down; she adopted the "out of sight out of mind" theory and drops the my "unattractive" tongue web when I enter the room.
It's been a week and it only swells up a little at the end of the day, after I've been talking all day. It took me a while to really get use to it too; I kept wanted to spit it out like a piece of gum. The ring has also been causing me some problems, I was eating raisin bran the other day and got a raisin stuck in the middle of the ring, my mom thought it was funny. So far, so good though and I'm crossing my fingers that it's going to be one that lasts. Adios and happy piercings!
