Where do I start -I guess at the beginning. The idea of body piercing has appealed to me for a few years now, but when I first started getting interested nobody I knew had any piercings and all considered it to be weird.

She intrigued me when she told some of us that she had several more-which definitely set my mind going. The second girl had her tongue pierced –this was what I set my heart on having pierced first!
One day at work, five of the others decided to go to the local tattoo shop to get some tattoo's and piercings during a 2 hour break –I had to decline cause the girl I was going out with at the time didn't approve, so I decided it was better that I didn't go – but I REALLY wished that I had!
Then came the point 18months later when we split up –you guessed it –piercing time! Now here comes the bummer –BANK HOLIDAY. In England we have these lovely public holidays, which allow people to have days off work, which seem great until you have the piercing bug! Not realizing that every piercing shop in Nottingham would be shut –I spent the day looking, and I can honestly say that one-week never seemed so long!
Finally the next weekend came! I had spent the week of waiting finding out which was the best studio in the area, so early on Saturday morning I went off to Access All Areas to get my tongue pierced –and yes –you guessed it –they didn't open till 10:30am! Talk about butterflies! There must have been a million of them in my stomach, I went in 5 minutes after they opened –and you guessed it again –first available appointment was 12:00, I wasn't going to wait any longer so I said "yes 12:00 was fine". The butterflies were now on the rampage!
I was meant to be meeting friends at 1:30pm so I wasn't sure if I was going to be there on time but I thought that the looks on their faces would be worth being late!
The time finally came-I chose to go for titanium; as others told me that the swelling is less than with surgical steel. I can honestly say that the people in Access All Areas are so friendly and instantly put you at ease. Other places that I had looked at before only seemed to be after your money and were not interested in your questions, where here nothing was any trouble and they encouraged questions and wanted you to fully understand what was going on.
At the time I hadn't heard of BME, so magazines had been my main source of info –but I learnt much more instantly from the fact sheets that they provided -on every topic that you can think of –and more!! I would recommend Access All Areas to anyone in the midland's area any day. The waiting room is great! Tons of cabinets full of different jewelry, and the studios are professional, tidy and very clean.
Firstly they use anesthetic gel to numb your tongue –I was so glad of this cause I would have pulled my tongue back if it had hurt! Whilst waiting for the gel to take affect, and whilst doing the prep work, my piercer was telling me about what he was doing, and all about the aftercare –which I thought was great as it puts you at ease and helps you to understand. Then came the piercing its-self: the end of my tongue was steadied with tweezers. I was told it would only take a couple of seconds: The piercing went much easier than I thought it would –it was always in the back of my mind that I would pull my tongue back when the needle went in –but I'm glad to say that I didn't! The needle came up from the bottom of my tongue- the jewelry went in, the needle came back down and out and the ball went on the bottom –all in about 2 seconds! I was well impressed! Mouthwash came after that; it bled a little, but not much.
I got to my friend's house early, and I even had time to get myself some mouthwash. This friend I didn't tell cause he's one of those that thinks that: "if you were meant to have holes – you would have been born with them!" On the way to meet the others we stopped off at mcdonalds. It's never taken me so long to eat a burger! My tongue was now getting its own back!–and yes I did manage to bite one of those little shiny balls –HARD! No chipped teeth though thankfully!
Half an hour later I finished my burger, had fun with mouthwash and he was still none the wiser. The others knew some thing was up when I walked in with a big grin on my face. They asked what it was so I showed them –and one nearly passed out! –Cause she can't stand needles. The next day I met a girl and we started going out -so all in all a great weekend!!
That was nearly 2 years ago –we split up, but hey! I've still got the tongue piercing (and a few others now !) no regrets!!!
