Usually I think about a tattoo or piercing for at least a few days before I actually get it done, but this time was a little different. I had never given much thought to having my tongue web pierced, other that looking up pictures on BME, but I decided to go for it anyhow once one of my friends brought it up.
At A Glance Author Bean Contact Bean@bme.anon When N/A Artist Craig Studio Sharp Images Location Orrville, Ohio I was hanging out with some of my friends and one of them (Craig, who pierces for a living) mentioned piercing one of my friends (she doesn't have anything pierced at all). He thought it would be cool to do a tongue web on her because he had stuff to make it numb so she wouldn't feel anything, and she could easily hide it. She decided that she didn't want to get a piercing, and got a tattoo instead. I, however, haven't had a new piercing in a while, and decided it was time for a new one (I think he's going to do my nipples, but I'm going to wait until softball season is over). After about thirty seconds of thinking I decided I'd take him up on the offer and get my tongue web pierced, minus being numbed of course. (He has pierced me a few times before so I knew I could take it, and even if I did hurt I wouldn't care, pain is almost part of the fun)
The next day when the shop (Sharp Images in Orrville, Ohio)opened I headed down with my friends and told Craig that I definitely wanted him to pierce my tongue web. While he went in to the back room to get everything ready (It is a clean shop with nice artists and piercers. It's the only place I go to get anything done and I highly recommend it to anyone in the area by the way) I filled out the paperwork, helped convince one of my friends to get a tattoo and talked to a few of the other people that worked there.
I went into the back room (where they do all of the piercings) and decided on a curved barbell for my tongue web. I didn't want to get a CBR (ring) in it because I didn't want to have to worry about my tongue barbell getting caught on it. (It has gotten caught a few times anyhow, but that's just when I am being dumb and playing around with it).
He then took a little light out to make sure that there was nothing in the way or that he should watch out for (like a vein or something). While he was looking around another piercer came back and told him that I had a huge vein that he should aim for (he was just trying to make me nervous, but it wasn't working and I just laughed at him).
Everything looked good so he had me rinse out with mouthwash and sit back down. He bent a needle so it would be curved and easier for him to work with in that area of my mouth. Next he then told me to stick my tongue to the roof of my mouth and he put the clamps on me. I was surprised with how little I actually felt, the clamps didn't pinch at all, they felt kinda weird, but that's it. I thought it would be a sensitive area but I was wrong. He asked if I was ready and I said that I was (well I couldn't speak very well with the clamps on and my mouth open, but you get the idea). When he started to pierce me I could feel the needle go through and it didn't hurt at all. There was a little bit of pressure and that was it. It actually felt pretty cool.
The hardest part of the entire piercing was keeping my mouth open while he was putting the jewelry in. He got the curved barbell in put had a little difficulty putting the ball on. My jaw started to get tired from having to keep my mouth wide open for a while, but I was fine (aside from a little drooling, but oh well).
I'm writing this story 3 days after getting pierced and it has given me no trouble so far. I have to use mouthwash after I have anything other than water, but that's about it. I could talk fine as soon as it was over (it took me about a half hour to talk normal after my tongue piercing) and there was no swelling. I think it looks awesome, especially with having my tongue pierced too. I like having more than one oral piercing, but I don't want to get my tongue done again. I'm now thinking about getting a scrumper or frowney done because I want something else. If anyone is considering this piercing I would highly recommend it because it is mostly painless, looks awesome, and is low maintenance.
