Before this piercing I didn't really have any other bod mods, just your usual lobes done twice and a navel, but I had always wanted more piercings, particularly my tragus, and I would have LOVED a tattoo, but that's another story! ;) Anyway, I was actually surfing the BME site, checking out all the different kinds of piercings, trying to decide what I wanted. I wanted something different, something which hardly anyone that I knew had. It seemed everyone I knew was either getting their tongue or eyebrow or navel done. Eyebrow piercings didn't appeal to me at all, I figured I would look horrible with one, I already had my navel done, and I was WAY too scared to get my tongue done! So I didn't know what to get. I went into the tongue section anyway, just for a look, when I came across the tongue web. "Hmmm" I thought, "interesting, different, cute." I figured I would keep that one in mind.
At A Glance Author Iceflower When Three months ago Artist Tails Studio Ground Control Location Edinburgh About a month before I got my piercing I met a girl who is sort of a friend of a friend, and she showed me her newly pierced tongue web. It looked amazing and I knew then that that was the piercing I wanted. I never seemed to get round to actually getting it done though, then about a month later, in my October break (yes I'm still at school:( ) I was determined to get it done. I went into town, getting really excited about the prospect of a new piercing. Me and my friends all hang around on a small street sort of in the centre of town, and it so happens there is a piercing place there, but I wasn't sure if I wanted it done there. I had gotten my navel pierced in a piercing place not far away, and it was really great there, so I went there first. The guy in the shop had a look at my web and said they would be able to pierce it, but that both their piercers were off that day, and to go back tomorrow. But I couldn't even wait till then!
So off to Ground Control I went. I met my friends and told them what I was planning on getting done. Some of them are quite heavily modified already, but none of them had tongue web piercings! One of my friends said she had been thinking about getting her web done, so we decided to get it done together, at least that way we'd have some moral support! The piercer at Ground Control is called Tails and he's relatively well known around here. We went in and stood in the queue, and after a little while of waiting, it was our turn. I let my friend go first, since she has lots of piercings already and was used to it by now. She sat up on the bench thingy and Tails explained that he couldn't use anaesthetic because it was in the mouth. At that point I wanted to back down, but I wasn't going to. Nothing would come between me and my piercing. I closely watched my friend's reaction as the needle went through, and we were both pleasantly surprised! "Is that it?" she said, the best words I could have heard! She got the ring put in and then it was my turn.
I was still quite nervous, maybe she just had a higher threshold of pain than me! I sat down and got ready. I shut my eyes, waiting for the painful sting of the needle. You know when you ask people "Did it hurt?" and they say "No way man, it was pain free!" but really they're lying? Well I can honestly say I didn't feel a thing, it was more like Tails was just pushing it with his finger, not sticking a needle in it! My navel had hurt more than that, in fact, so had my ear lobes! Tails explained to us that sometimes little white lumps appear on either side of the ring and that if they got too big we were to go see him and have it taken out. We paid Tails, said thanks, and ran outside, desperate to show off our piercings to everyone. We got mixed reactions. Everything from "Wow that's amazing!" to "Oh my god that's horrible!" but we didn't care, we loved them! At this point my mouth wasn't sore, just hot, so I got a bottle of water and sipped on that for the rest of the day, a nd for about a week afterwards I would sometimes put ice cubes under my tongue, just to stop any infection.
3 months on and my piercing is fine, actually it was fine after about 2 weeks. I did have very small lumps at first but they've gone now. It used to feel really strange with this thing in, but now I never notice it, and I'm always playing with it, especially when I'm sitting in school bored out of my tree! If you're looking for a piercing that's a little bit different, quick to heal and virtually pain free, get your tongue web done!
