I have no idea where the idea to get my tongue pierced came from, but one sun shiny day when I was finding info on it, I came across BME, and I absolutely fell in love. I looked at 101 pictures and worked out exactly where I wanted mine placed, and read a ton of experiences, and I was so physiced! My only problem was my mum. I begged, pleaded, screamed, cried, threw a tantrum, everything, and still a big fat no. She was worried about how people would treat me with one, and if it got infected and such. So, I wrote her this great big long letter that covered everything she was worried about, peoples reactions to healing, to whether I changed my mind later and hated it. It covered everything and I left it out where she'd see it in the morning and I went to bed. Well, the next morning I woke up, and she'd read it, and rung the piercer and confirmed everything id said was true, and she said..... YES! So I rang my bestfriend dropped the news to her and said we'd pick her up in an hour. That was the longest and scariest hour of my life. I felt pretty sure it wasn't going to hurt, not that id have really minded pain, I was just terrified they were going to say mine was impossible to piece or something.
At A Glance Author kezryn Contact kezryn@bme.anon Artist Tony Studio Essential Beauty Location Adelaide, Australia Anyway so my mum dropped us off in town, she didn't need to come in or anything because in Australia we don't need permission to get pieced; or tattooed for that matter! So the shop I went to is a beauty shop where they do waxing, nails, facials, that kinda thing, but they are one of the only body piecing places in Adelaide but the guy who does the piecing, only does piecing, so that's good.Anyway, when I got there I was served straight away and was taken into the back room and they marked my tongue and told me to lie down on the bed. It wasn't placed exactly where I wanted it but he said the rest of me was too in the way. I also wanted to be pieced at 10g, or at least 12g, but he said only cows are pieced at that gauge so it was done at 14g, I didn't feel like arguing, not that I had much choice! So Tony put on the clamps and I was thinking, so far so good, this doesn't hurt, and he was talking to an apprentice who he was training, so there was no element of surprise when he was going to piece cos he said, 'okay and now we push the needle through.' I was like 'oh, good to know', but it didn't hurt, I felt like a prick and then i just knew he's pushing it through and then Tony did up the barbell and it was over. Actually, it was a bit of an anticlimax, some pain would have been quite nice!!So I paid my $60 and then the bar cost another $20 and I had to come back in two weeks and change to a shorter bar and that was another$20, geez, Bloody expensive! One bad thing I would say is that they did not tell me any after care instructions except for a sheet that they'd printed off, designed to cover aftercare of all piecings, so I ditched there's and just followed what I'd read on here, that was diluted Listerine and stay away from ice-cream and spicy foods, alcohol and kissing.Anyway, so down the track:Day one:
On the way home I got fizzy drink from macca's and then I just ate mashed iceblocks, but I did manage to eat scrambled egg for tea. I didn't really think I had much swelling, like I was expecting a lot more, actually for the whole week of healing there was only a little bit of swelling.Day two:
I woke up with brown on my tongue, apparently from way too much Listerine, so I watered it down to 1 part Listerine 3 parts water. Worked great.Day Three:
I had Chinese for tea, but nothing really tasted proper, probably because my mouth was all a bit too clean from swishing every few hours! And my tongue was pretty white and it hurt to yawn, other than that I was good. Oh except for a lisp, no one understood me!Day four to six:
Lisp is still there, but I could eat and basically pretty good.Day Seven:
Completely back to normal, I could talk, eat, yawn, sing dance the works. Now it's 4 months later, and I still absolutely love my piecing. I have a keloid underneath but it doesn't cause to much trouble, just doesn't look as nice. Tony said it was from the nickel in the bar, as I have SS. I've mostly had all good comments my friends who are pretty straightedge, and my mum loves it! And for anyone who goes to a strict school, I go to a private school, where we are only allowed studs in our ears, that's right not even sleepers, and none of the teachers have noticed, so at least where mine was placed, it's invisible!I wouldn't rate this a my greatest thing ever done, but it's definitely up there, especially as before I got it done all my friends AND the guy I was absolutely in love with said tongue piecings were gross and not to get it, I still did, and I love that cos it's the one thing I've done for myself without worrying about other peoples standards and opinions, and I love being the individual!!! So this was a great piecing to start at, since then I've got a pocketing in my wrist, love it, and I'm working on getting the guts to get a rook, but the're just another story!
