I finally did it! I've wanted my tongue pierced for about 3 months now, ever since I had to take out my cartilage piercing. I decided I wanted something different than my ears pierced. Two thing came to mind, either my tongue or my belly button. After watching countless numbers of my friends get their tongues pierced without any pain I decided that I would get my tongue pierced. I also persuaded my boyfriend to get his tongue pierced. We both decided that we would go during winter break, because that would give us enough time for it to heal and the swelling to go down. So we both decided that we would go the first if January, so we could have a little fun on New Year's Eve.

New Year's day we went out and had a big lunch, because we both knew that we might not be eating solids for a few days. After lunch we drove down to a piercing studio that all my friends had gone to because they are not that strict about the whole age thing and I am only seventeen. Well, we walked in and waited in line tell it was our turn. I explained to the lady that I was from out of town and had no ID with me, she told me she couldn't do anything for me. My boyfriend asked if he could sign for me because he is 18, but she still said no. Those people at the piercing studios know about evey lie in the book so I guess it was pretty dumb to try and lie. So we left pretty dissapointed. As we were driving back to my house I decided there was only one way I could get my tongue pierced and that was to convince my parents. I knew this wasn't going to be easy.

Well, i talked to my mom and she wasn't to pleased, but I told her I would get it done no matter what she said. I asked her if she would rather have my go to some dirty piercing place where my tongue would get infected or she could take me somewhere good and professional. She told me she would take me if I could convince my dad. So now I had to convince him. I simply pulled up the website of BME and let my parents read the articles (especially the healing information part) , I convinced them it isn't that dangerous and not that painful. They finally gave in, YESSSSS!

So my mom, my boyfriend, and I all drove down to a much better piercing sudio in town called Sachs. I was so happy I wasn't even nervous. We filled out the paper work, payed thirty-six dollars, and took a seat. We probally waited about thirty minutes tell our turn. I couldn't believe how calm I was, while my boyfriend was sitting next to me shaking. The guy called us back into the room and I decided I would go first. I sat down in this weird chair type thing, the piercer explained everything to me and I rinsed my mouth out with Listerine (yucky, that stuff is strong). He dried off my tongue(kinda a weird felling) and put blue dots on each side, then he put the clamp on. And no the clam did not hurt at all, I dont even remember felling it. He told my to take a deep breath and exhale and he would slip the needle through. When I exhaled I felt the needle go through, ouch! But a second later he was done, I never felt the 12g barbell go through. I did think the piercing did hurt a little, but it was defintely tolerable and the pain was only a second long. We tipped the piercer and went on our way. On the way home we stopped by the store and bought Listerine and popsicles. It took me about twenty minutes to eat one popsisle and it was hard to swallow pills. It just takes some getting used to, I can do it pretty well now.

The next few days sucked. The swelling was enormous (the whole barbell lenght was taken up but my tongue), my tongue was very sore, and it was difficult to talk(talking makes it hurt more). I just tried to stick to juice, popsicles, ice cream, smoothies, baby food (its good), and pudding. I was told my the piercer that eating anything hot or spicy was bad and would make my tongue swell more so I stayed away from hot chocolate, soup, and ramen for a week and a half. When I did try to eat solids, it was very hard and frustrating, and it made my tongue sore, so stay away from solids for at leat the first three days. Im using a 50/50 mouthwash with half listerine and half water after anything besides air and water enter my mouth. Im supposed to use that for 4-6 weeks, with no oral contact for a month. So im gonna stick with this swollen tongue of mine and hope everthing turns out good! If you want your tongue pierced I say DO IT! I love this thing even if it does hurt, as of now I don't regret it at all.
