About a month ago, there was a huge streak of kids just going out and getting piercings, and of course, I was one of them. One of my very best friends had just gotten her tragus pierced, and as soon as I saw it, I was determined to get it. It was the cutest thing that I had ever seen.
Around four weeks later, I was on my way to New tribe excited for my new piercing,(without my parents consent). Up the stairs I went, made my appointment, and eagerly waited until they called my name.
Five minutes later my name was called, I walked into a small room and watched my piercer set up. He cleaned my ear and showed me where he was about to pierce me. I laid on my right side on the bed while he clamped my ear and slowly put the needle through. Before you know it, I was done.
A few weeks after the piercing, everything was going fine, a little swelling, but that was normal. One day while I was hanging out with one of my friends, we decided to go swimming, and I stupidly put my head under the water forgetting about my piercing. The next day I woke up to see this bump on my ear, I'm not just talking about a small pressure bump, im talking about a huge bubble that had formed on the outside of my ear. I figured it was just an irritation and it would go away soon if I continued to do my salt water treatment twice a day. It didn't go away. I called New tribe and told the lady on the other end of the line that a bubble had formed on my ear, she said it was probably just a pressure bump and it should be gone soon. So I took her advice, still following my instructions.
A week goes by, nothing happens and I had plans to go to Alberta to stay with my cousin, and all I knew was that I wanted this "thing" on my ear, GONE. When i arrived in alberta,I told her what I had to do to clean my piercing. She gave me the stuff for it, but she said it looked really infected and that I would probably have to get someone to look at it. I did some research on the internet and it seemed that everyone who had their tragus done was getting the same infection. A couple days later, I find a piercing place, so I go and I try to see if i can get some one to look at the infection. A girl behind a desk comes up to me, looks at my ear, and then backs up and gives me the most disturbing look on her face and says.. " wow, that looks like a really bad infection".. ( like i don't already know that). she gives me an all natural product and told me that it should be gone within the next 2 weeks, so i thanked her, and left with the new product to try.
A few days later, I'm on the plane again back to toronto with this horrible infection. I go to the doctor for a regular check up and she said that is it doesn't heal within the next week, take it out or else it will just get worse. I decided that I would go see another piercer to see what they had to say. Just up the street from me is a place called Lower East Side, I walk in and asked this girl behind the counter if i could get some one to look at it. The girl walks up to me and says.. " Thats a keloid, you need to go to your doctor, get them to take it out, and give you steroid shots to get rid of it".
At this point im freaking out, I have no clue what a keloid is, but I didn't want my piercing to be removed. I continued to clean the piercing, and later on decided that it was probably a good idea for me to go back to the place i got it pierced for a second opinion to see what they had to say. I show up at New Tribe and what to you know.. They told me the same thing, "That looks like keloid scaring, go see a doctor". So after all of my traveling around, I talked to one of my friends, who told me that crushed aspirin and water was really good for healing keloids. I have no been using that for the past 3 days and still no improvement. If anybody has any other suggestions, please let me know.
I really hope my story hasn't discouraged anyone from getting their tragus pierced, It's such an adorable piercing, I just happen to be having a lot of bad luck. New Tribe is an amazing place to get any type of piercing, i would recommend it to anyone who was looking for a good place to get pierced... anyway, Happy piercing! :)
