I will start by saying that this was my first professionally done ear piercing. I have 7 in each ear but these were all done by myself by the age of 15/16. I would not recommend this to anyone, but I was young and thought I knew best. Luckily I have never had a problem with any of them. I currently now have 16 ear piercings (if you count the industrial as two), eyebrow and nose pierced. I also had my lip centrally pierced but sadly had to retire it. I also have 2 microdermal implants just above where my left wrist bends.

I never thought I would have any more ear piercings but after having to remove my centrally placed lip ring a few months ago I felt bare and needed something new. I decided I wanted an industrial.

I decided to visit my usual piercing studio, Holier Than Thou in Manchester. I went for something to eat and a look around other shops first then went. When I walked in I chose a new eyebrow barbell because I was having a few problems with the one I was wearing which every few weeks kept making my brow flare up and go red Marcus explained that I was probably having a reaction to the coating on the barbell. I chose a standard titanium one which he custom sized for me.

I then said that I wanted my industrial doing so he got me to sign the usual waiver forms and went into the piercing room. I sat down and Marcus explained that he would mark the placement and if I was happy then it was all systems go. He cleaned my ear and then marked where he thought the industrial would look best seeing as I have 7 piercings already in that ear, 2 of them cartilage piercings. I agreed with the placement and he said he would do the top piercing first and that would be the worst. I took the usual deep breath in and let it out as he pierced. I can honestly say that all I felt was a slight pressure but no pain. I was expecting horrible pain but nothing.

He then said that he was going to do the second piercing and with this I felt a little more pressure than the first but again nothing like what I was expecting. He then said that he was putting the jewellery in and then screwed the ball on. Marcus then said that unusually I wasn't bleeding, that is until a few seconds later when I got slight bleeding which started to clot very quickly. I couldn't believe how quickly this was over and how it didn't hurt at all.

As he was piercing me we talked about the Manchester Tattoo Convention and also the upcoming Liverpool Convention where Holier Than Thou will be working. I am planning to go and hopefully get my other industrial done on the day.

I walked out a very happy customer, as usual. I have now had 6 piercings done there and would recommend them to anyone.

I was expecting it to start hurting after a few hours, but nothing apart from a little swelling. I left it a few hours and did my first salt soak. This was fine and there wasn't much blood crustiness. That night I slept well and it didn't hurt even when I accidentally turned over onto it.

The morning after it was fine and still pain free. I am doing the usual twice daily salt soaks and also using Savlon Wound Wash after the salt soaks. It has now been three days and all is well. I was really apprehensive seeing as a lot of people have said that having an industrial was painful. I found it painless and it didn't swell too much at all. I can brush and wash my hair with no problems, I have very long hair which so far hasn't got stuck to my industrial or wrapped around it. I am very happy with it and am planning to have the other side done to match shortly. I eventually want each side turning into an industrial with spiral but will have to see how it goes first and what this would entail.

I would recommend this piercing to anyone as long as you are willing to keep up with the aftercare as this piercing can take up to six months to properly heal. I can't wait for my next one and I am also planning to have another four microdermal implants in the future.

The staff at Holier Than Thou are very knowledgeable and don't rush you. I always feel really relaxed there and they will answer any question you may have, even if it sounds really stupid. The aftercare advice is spot on and they are always there if you need advice afterwards.
