I will spare you my mod back-story, as I know you want to read about my daith piercing and not my 9 other piercings or 2 tattoos. This experience happened 3 days ago when my good friend came home from the Army on leave. I got off work, money in hand from my 1st paycheck from my new job, and got picked up by her and another close friend of mine. We three girls went out for a night on the town, ultimately coming to the conclusion that I should get a piercing. I've had the itch for quite some time now, and since I actually had money on hand, I decided it sounded like a wonderful plan. While driving downtown, I sat in the car debating on what to pierce. Facial piercings were out of the question now that I had a new job, so that ruled out a good majority. I didn't want to get my sternum pierced yet, or my navel....
At A Glance Author Quee Contact korquee@hotmail.com When It just happened Artist Smitty Studio Big Brain Productions Location Omaha, NE Upon arriving at Big Brain Productions, I had cut my choices down to piercing a part of my ear. Which part? Well, I was stuck between my daith, rook, and tragus. I told them this while signing the papers, and then waited for a couple minutes before me and my friends were called back. First off, I must say, Smitty is an amazing piercer and never fails to put me at ease. If you're in the Omaha area at all and want a recommendation, I highly suggest Big Brain. Anyway, back to the story. We go in the piercing room and Smitty gives me his input to help me decide. He suggests the daith because it's less common, and sets a ring in my ear so that I can see what it'll look like. I check it out in the mirror and agree with him.
Smitty starts setting up while conversing with us, causing me to laugh a bit and calm my nerves. It's widely known with my friends that I enjoy the sensation of needles, whether piercings or tattoos, yet I never fail to get that nervous, anxious feeling. My friend comes over to hold my hand while Smitty puts the needle up to my ear, the whole while maintaining conversation. I take a breath and I feel the needle press in. Pressure, pressure, pressure, does it end?!! I squeeze my friend's hand - hard. My ear hurts, it's in pain, when is the pressure going to stop?? I feel Smitty move away to grab the cbr, and my friend comments, "Ooh, look at the needle in your ear." I don't know why, but for some reason, I just can't look at the needle in me. Smitty turns back and I feel him sliding the cbr in... OW! That hurt more than getting pierced! By now, I'm gritting my teeth, telling myself that it'll be over soon enough. Slight tugging, positioning differently, snap the ball in, and it's done. I continue to stay board stiff, clutching my friend's hand. That was, without a doubt, my most painful piercing.
Smitty cleaned up the blood, talked to me about the aftercare. I'm not to move it, I'm to use antibacterial soap, and if I have any complications at all, I'm to come straight to him - he'll help me heal it. I checked my new piercing out in the mirror.... It's gorgeous. I love it so much. I was feeling a bit woozy, so a stalled a bit, not wanting to admit to being light headed in front of my friends. I took a few deep breaths and paid up front. Once we left the shop and the cool night air hit my ear, I felt a thousand times better. Still feeling a bit sick to my stomach, they forced me in the car and drove to the nearest Burger King to get me one of those iced mocha drinks. It helped immensely, along with the three tylenol.
It's been three days since I got the piercing, and I must say that the next day it felt so much better. If I place my hands under my cheek, I can lie on my left side ((the side that was pierced)) and I haven't had a problem with long hair. However, I did have an itch yesterday by my ear, and I knocked my hand rather hard into the piercing. It's a bit mad today, probably due to the fact that I like to reach up and touch the ball. Cleaning is a bit weird, as it's a hard piercing to really see. I manage though, soaping up q-tips and getting the crusties off, then rinsing the soap off with water. It's an awesome piercing, and I highly recommend it. It's really cute and I love how it peaks out from my ear. The initial piercing really, really hurt me, but I'd definitely go through it again - the look is unique.
