About a month ago I got my first piercing at a viable piercing/tattoo location. I decided to get pierced on my 18th birthday in celebration. It didn't take much consideration because prior to getting pierced I have ear piercings that range from the standard cartilage to my double zero and 4g lobes. Needless to say I wasn't afraid. I was wrapped up in gitty anticipation that I was actually going to be signing the paper and not getting pierced at Claire's or some Wal-Mart super store. I was also a little worried about my dad's reaction, but after a bit of thinking I realized that being 18 meant more than being able to sign a piece a paper, it meant that my parents didn't have to understand my fixation with holes. The only that would matter is would I be happy?

My place of choice was American Tattoo in Baltimore. I knew what bus to take an before long my two best guy friends and I were on our way. After the bus didn't show up after an hour we decided to walk from the 2300 block of Eastern Avenue to the 6300 block where the shop was located. After stopping and looking in head shops that I now could walk in we reached our destination.
When we entered the shop I told the apprentice at the desk that it was my birthday and she said that was great and to mention it to get a discount off my next piercing. I then signed all the papers, showed my birth certificate (long story why I don't have an id), and paid 80 bucks for my tragus and navel piercing. Next, we waited for an hour until the piercer took a break from working on another clients sleeve. The apprentice poked her head out from the back room and signaled me to comeback. I enjoyed some convo with the piercer, but never thought about asking for a name. I had my navel dotted twice since it seemed a bit off and then he dotted my tragus. Although I whined for over two years about wanting my navel pierced, the tragus turned out to be the bigger piercing. I lay back in the chair and the piercer asked what I wanted done first. I wanted my tragus done since I was more accustomed to ear piercing. Up to this point I have only been shot with a gun (horrible and stupid I know), but as I thought about it the needle looked much safer and cleaner. After being pierced my tragus felt almost the same. All I could say was, "wow!" The needle was smoother I didn't feel my ear throbbing or any of the gun side effects that I was use to. Next, was the navel, which I will admit hurt a bit more, but it was worth it? I departed with my sea salt, spray, and care instructions (I forgot the coupon). The piercer and everyone in the shop were great and very kind. They were a huge upgrade from the old woman who pierced me at Wal- Mart. I left the shop feeling accomplished and I think I will be returning to American Tattoo very soon for my industrial.
Now, a month into my tragus it acts up a lot. I know it is me I'm not use to not using ear buds, and having discomfort when touching my ear. I play with my tragus unconsciously and I know I must stop. Other than the normal crusties on my navel and tragus there are virtually no problems and I plan on getting more holes in the future. I don't have a clue on what to do about the tragus problems and wish I could get some help.I plan on stretching my 4g to a 0g and getting an industrial, tongue web, orbital, rook, and daith. Who knows I may even do m nipples, but I will always remember getting my tragus on my 18th birthday. It was a long ass walk and it gets annoying sometimes, but sometimes I really enjoy looking at it more than my navel.
Thanks American Tattoo, I will return soon.
The bad thing about the experience was strangely my friends they were really impatient and only one of the guys came in the room with me. I probably should take someone who appreciates piercing more with me. I would like to recommend doing a bit more research on how to care for a tragus because for some people it can turn into a lot of work and complications. I haven't had many, but there are many horror pics just google them. Also make sure your other piercings are healthy and clean. My ears were perfect when I was pierced on my birthday, but after under going a stretch to double zero I had to deal with three annoying piercings. Being healthy makes thing easier and one should never rush getting pierced or a stretch.
