Okay, so first of all I really do not recommend doing your own piercings! I know it's a stupid thing to do but honestly I just didn't want to pay for just one hole doing but having to pay for two!

I've always been a fan of body mods but my Mum isn't that keen, she doesn't say no not ever and neither does my Dad, just that I have to wait till I finish school, by then I'll be 16 so I can go legally anyway, or just ones that aren't to, well extreme I suppose.

I had my first holes done when I was three [my own choice] my seconds done when I was 10, cartilage when I was 11 and then I asked my Mum for ages if I could get my thirds done, because we are only allowed one pair of studs for school, but rules are there to be broken! So eventually she gave in and I got them done. [my Dad doesn't really say much about piercings, I don't think he's that bothered to be honest. And anyway they both know as soon as I'm old enough I'll go get it done anyway with or without their permission!]

So anyway, I had gotten my 3rd holes in my ears pierced last xmas (2oo7)and after they healed I started wearing earrings in them that are just to heavy [which I didn't know at the time!], they weren't hoops or anything just big studs.

After a couple of months I noticed that the hole was getting lower and lower down the lobe. I figured it was something to do with the earrings so I switched to a small pair of studs. The only problem was the hole on my right ear was too far down already so the other day in class, I was just playing with it and it just tore straight out. It didn't hurt but it was kinda annoying as I knew I'd have to wait a couple of weeks for it to heal up before I could get it done again and also the fact that now I have a small scar where the initial piercing was, and on the edge of my ear it looks as though I've taken some scissors and snipped the edge of it!

So last Thursday I was home sick from school and just reading up some stories on BME and decided, what the hell I'll do it myself! So I found the pack of new sewing needles my Mum had bought the previous weekend, an earring and some ice. I boiled the kettle and put the needle and the earring in a glass with the water and some bicarbonate of soda - I use this [and recommend it] whenever I clean any of my jewelry as it works a charm. (I only have earrings mind you for actual piercings) - to make sure everything was clean. After around 10 minutes I got the ice and held it on my ear for about 5 minutes to make sure it was completely numb! I don't have a very high pain tolerance and wanted to make sure I didn't feel a thing!!

Piercing time!

I marked the spot on my ear with my eyeliner (I figured this would be the only non toxic thing I have to do it with!) and placed the needle on the spot. I pushed the needle and was actually shocked that I had gone through with it! Then was the hard part, it took a minute or two to push it through the other side, I don't know why, it just did! Once it went through I stood there shaking ( I think it was the adrenaline rush!!) But I was surprised at the fact that it didn't hurt AT ALL!

So I took the needle out, wiped round it as it bled a little and put the new earring in! It's now been a couple of days and it's fine! No infections (thank God!) no nothing! I guess that's just luck as I know how stupid doing piercings yourself can be and what complications there can be!

Hopefully there will be more mods to come and I will make sure I take care for these properly and get them done by professionals! Getting my nose pierced at summer so will write that one up when the time comes!

If anyone is reading this and has their nose pierced please get in contact and let me know how it went! I've read so many stories about them saying it hurt soo much and then others saying they didn't feel a thing!

Thanks for reading and I hope I haven't bored you too much! =] And like I said before - I do not recommend home done piercings for everyone! Everybody is different and will react in different ways to any piercing so it's best to get it done professionally!

Ta very muchly!

Hollie xx
