My name is DeAna, I am from bean town and I am 17. I come from a very old fashion and strict Puerto Rican family so I didn't have high hopes when I asked my mother if I could get another hole in my head. It was around the time of my boyfriends birthday, January 10, 2008, and he wanted to get his ears pierced ( a simple lobe piercing) so I thought it would be cute if we got our ears pierced together. Since I already had me ear lobe pierced, I decided that a tragus piercing would make a great addition to the collection of others in my somewhat large ears.

I didn't want it to seem like a big deal because I knew that if I did she would definitely say no. So I took a deep breath and asked "Mami Phillipe (my boyfriend) is getting his ears pierced for his birthday and I really wanted to get mine too can I PLEASE. To my surprise she agreed without hesitation. I immediately called my boyfriend and we set up a date.
The next day we went to this tattoo and body piercing place in Harvard square. Unfortunately they didn't pierce the tragus of anyone who was under 18, which I thought was pretty stupid seeing how I had brought all of the required forms of ID and I had my father with me. Discouraged I decided not to get it done. My boyfriend still wanted to get his done so I accompanied him to the mall where he got his lobes pierced.
The following week, I was looking through the yellow pages and I found this piercing place near my home. I called them and they agreed to pierce my tragus as long as I had my birth certificate and a parent or guardian. I was soo excited and I bragged to all of my friends about the new piercing that I was going to get that Sunday.
Sunday came quickly and my father picked me up bright and early. We were the first ones there and even helped in opening the shop. We went inside and it was totally creepy. There were skulls and voodoo dolls hanging from the ceiling, Goth like pictures hanging on the wall, and dead animals stuffed and put into fish tanks filled with water. I was almost ready to walk out when my father grabbed me and gave me an evil look which scared me more then the voodoo dolls.
The man had me write my name down and sign some form as he made a copy of my birth certificate and my fathers license. He then told me to sit down and wait for the piercer to call my name. I sat waiting in a leopard print sofa working on my breathing and awaiting the pain. I wasn't too nervous. I was more excited then anything because I was finally getting my tragus pierced.
The man called my name and lead me into the back of the store, down this brightly lit hallway. He brought me into a small brightly lit room with a green dentist chair. There was loud heavy metal music playing in the background and the piercer was terrifying. He was a big man with tattoos and piercing all over his face. He had a spider theme tattoo scheme and large irregular horns coming from his ears.
He scared the mess out of me at first but then once we started talking I felt really comfortable. He was really funny and down to earth. I watched as he put blue surgical gloves on and set up all of his brand new sterile tools. I sat down on the chair and made myself as comfortable as I could. He took a cotton ball and wiped my ear with a yellowish liquid that doctors use when they are preparing for surgery. He must have wiped it about five times and then he called his assistant in. The guy came in and held my head. The piercer put the mark on my ear with a blue marker and showed me the spot, it was exactly where I wanted it to be.
The piercer reassured me that it would all be over soon. He then put the needle in. I squinted my eyes in preparation for the pain but to my surprise, none came. All I felt was pressure and then it was over. After putting the needle all the way in The guy seemed very concern and asked me if I was okay. I panicked because I thought something went wrong but then he simply said " I have been piercing for 30 years and that was the hardest tragus that I have ever done". I felt like a total badass because it didn't hurt me one bit and I am usually a baby when it comes to pain.
He put the ring in and I was on my way. I wasn't even sore after I got the piercing. I forgot that I had it a couple of times. The only time that my piercing was uncomfortable was when I had to clean it for the first time. I love my piercing and I would recommend that anyone interested should definitely get it done.
