Chapter One - The Idea

Ok so basically i'd wanted to get another ear piercing of some sort since i can't remember when. Firstly, when I got serious i decided i'd get a Helix, but looking at the risks (i relax my hair, its quite long and I'm always combing it) i decided that it wouldn't be a clever one to get yet. Then, one day, i saw Justin Timberlake's video for "What Goes Around...". In a part of it I saw that Scarlett Johansson had a beautiful little piercing on an odd part of her ear. In the video it looked like a stud, but at a second glance I saw it was actually a ring with a pearl-like bead. I WAS LOVESTRUCK. I decided then and there that that was my new piercing location. It was offbeat, but interesting. Exactly a description that i thought would match my personality.

From that point onwards - probs about May-ish - I spent a lot of spare time on the net, looking up 'Tragus' piercings, how nice they can look and how bad. They pretty much all looked cute. I was stuck on whether or not I would want a ring. For a while I decided I did. However I changed my mind later on, and just promised myself that after all my exams i'd get it done.

Chapter Two - Getting it Done

Its August, rainy here in London, and 3A*s 6As and 3Bs later, I knew there was nobody in my way of this piercing. My parents were far too happy about my results to deny it to me. I'd been on BME endlessly, looking at pictures, reading stories, trying to make sure i wanted this thing bad. I still did, and I wanted to do something for ME. I felt like I'd come a long way in 2007. So the day after results (yesterday 24th) I got my friend to come with me up to Eclipse. We walked downstairs into the studio. I gotta say it's a nice place. Its not intimidating for someone who's never been pierced 'consciously'(I had my lobes done when i was tiny)before. The woman behind the counter had bleached blonde hair, and a piercing on the web of her upper lip. I asked nervously for a Tragus Piercing, and she asked my age and all that jazz. Minutes after signing a form and having my passport photocopied, I was sitting in waiting.

Next, a small woman (with an accent from somewhere in Europe)came out of the next room for me. I got up and dragged my friend with me. The worst thing was that my friend wasn't actually ALLOWED to come. Anyway the room was really quite clinical looking. It looked just like a doctors surgery, except that the chair/bed thing was in the middle of the room, not to a side. She marked out the spot for me, I thought it was a bit to high, so she moved it down slightly. I saw the bar i was getting. I remember wondering if i'd get to choose one with a ball with a gem on front, but i didn't ask. After that she told me to lie down, and she told me she was going to clamp my ear. No, the clamp didn't hurt like other people have said. To the contrary, the needle did. I REALLY felt it. NO crunching/crushing sound. Just a sharp hurt! I kid you not, from all the BME accounts i read about "almost no pain or a lot of pain", I can safely say that it hurt me. But that should not put you off. I mean like come on, this is a thick piece of flesh we have here. I thanked her and walked out in a bit of a daze. Most of it was because I'm used to living in my little warm world, and it was a weird feeling having ACTUALLY gone out and done something so random like this and nobody stopping me.

The Aftermath.

I'm really happy with the piercing. I'm even more proud of myself to see people look at it and say how nice it is, and then for me to honestly tell them it DID hurt afterall. It's been a good sport so far. It didn't bleed at all, and hasn't so far. I'm currently just doing the sea salt water soaks with cotton buds. I really hope it doesn't get infected, but i don't think it will because it looks absolutely fine. It also doesn't hurt much at all right now, which is cool. I can't wait till I can fiddle with it and not feel any pain. And also get a labret stud so I can wear a left headphone again.

So! If you wanna get this piercing, I say do your homework. I don't want to know what it will look like if it gets infected or gets a keloid, so I'm not fiddling directly with it for at least four months. Its a pretty piercing. It might not hurt for you, or maybe it will. Regardless, so far I have no regrets and i'm totally loving it. Hope you enjoyed my essay!!
