Hey guys, I think I'll use this little box here to tell you all about my Helix piercing and where the idea to have it done came from.

I originally wanted my Tragus pierced, and when I was in Motril with my Dad & Uncle, I asked to borrow some money to add to what I had to get it done. They said no, my Dad because he 'wasn't putting money toward shit like that' and my Uncle because he didn't have the cash on him to give me. So I went home and tried to pierce my tragus myself, with a sewing needle. [Bad idea, don't do this in case of infection and whatever]

Unfortunately, this didn't work as the tragus wouldn't stop bending, so I gave up on that idea, downhearted.

So, just for the fun of it, I started poking the cartilage, toying with the idea of piercing it. I didn't actually want to do it, and it almost did it itself. I poked around the area I would have it in, then did it harder and harder until it started sliding through. By now, I was strangely surprised about the lack of pain. It wasn't hurting at all, just a bit uncomfortable due to the pressure I was putting on the needle.

Then, noticing that the needle was quite far into my ear, I felt around the back of the rim, and felt a prick. The tip of the needle had actually gone all the way through the cartilage, and I had barely noticed it!

Now, this is where the pain began, stretching the back of the hole as the tip of the needle started coming through, getting wider and wider as it came through.

All of a sudden, it was through, and I slid it all the way through, until it came out the back of my ear.

I could see this tiny pinhole in my helix now, smaller than I had expected, and the skin around it looked fairly red.

Now that I had the needle out, I started to try putting this little silver stud through, with a Marijuana leaf on the front. I forgot at this point that silver deteriorates when used in fresh piercings, so remember this fact!

Well, as i put it through, it was extremely painful as the end of the stud had a little knobbly bit on it to prevent it falling out, and to remove the use of a butterfly clip. And, of course, this was wider than the needlehole.

All of a sudden I heard a 'pop!' sound, and it was almost through, with just a small layer of skin of the back of the hole where it had already started closing up. So I forced it, and it came out the back.

Once it was in, my ear felt better instantly, but still throbbing. So I got a tissue, dampened it and wiped away the blood that had appeared.

All day I filled with adrenaline, and for some bizarre reason I still couldn't get my head round 1) how easily my cartilage had been pierced and 2) that I had a tiny bit of metal in the rim of my ear.

I went to the beach later that day, then to a restaurant, and I couldn't stop fiddling with it. I wasn't too sure, though, if the salt water was good or bad for it. My presumption was that it was good, due to the amount of salt in it, but it might not do anything major for it, because it's not sterilised water.

I left the silver stud in until this morning, when I noticed that it was still red & sorer than it should have been. So, I got out of bed, and took it out, which hurt a bit because of the large back of the stud, and spent 15 minutes with a wad of tissue in my mouth [to prevent me from crying out] whilst putting an even wider gold stud in, that was of course sterilised.

My Mum still hasn't noticed it, and I hope she won't for a while, because she will go apeshit if she spots it. So, for the time being, I will keep washing it at night and pulling my hair over it when she walks past!

Here's a pic of my happy-looking ear with the gold stud in, with the 0ga and 2ga lobe that I wrote about previously:

Now I'm planning on maybe putting a second hole next to it, to have an orbital, but I'm not totally certain about that yet. And I plan on going to see my Uncle's tattooist when I'm in England to get my Tragus pierced cheaply, so I get both!

Can't wait to have my next piercing, which will be when I move back to the UK.

Safe!

Alex (Y)
