Today is the day that I've been waiting for for over 8 years. Today is the day that I can FINALLY get my ears pierced. Today was one of the happiest days of my life.

Now, I couldn't get my ears pierced until I was 18, which I was on July 24th. The reason I had to wait was pretty much because of social conformity. My mom didn't care, but my step-dad made it a huge deal. That and my family is comprised of conservative Christian Italians. My game plan now is to just take out my earrings when I go to see my family. Now that I'm 18 I'm free to do what I want and it's an amazing feeling.

There were some complications as to when and where I was going to get my ears pierced. At first my Uncle was going to take me. My Uncle is probably one of the reasons I wanted to get pierced in the first place. He's 52ish and has both of his lobes pierced twice, bell button once and both nipples pierced. He has has four tattoos that I've seen. It turned out that he didn't have time to come with me, so I decided to go by myself.

My mother was telling me to go to the mall and my response to that was "Are you fucking alright?" I wanted to get it done right by a professional. Now I had to go look up parlors nearby. I was browsing some site and they told me that in Medway, MA there's a place called Visions Tattoo Gallery that did piercings and tattoos. Not an expert in the subject, I turned to my friend Erika for help. Erika has numerous piercings and two, soon to be three, tattoos. It turns out that she had been to Visions and had a great experience there. She gave me advice about what to ask for exactly and to be precise about what I wanted.

Visions opens at 1 PM so at around 1ish I left my house to go find it. It was RIGHT on 109 so finding it wasn't a big deal. I walk in and it's nice, clean and air conditioned and I thought to myself "So far, so good." A lady had walked in in front of me so she was being helped by Angela, the piercing professional. As I waited I glanced over at some of the artwork on the wall that was done by Canman, the tattoo artist there. They were all well done and one of them that tickled my fancy was one with a picture of Jesus, but for a head he had a TV, and over his chest was a glowing dollar sign. I almost asked if they had a print of that I could take, but maybe next time.

I was then asked by Angela what I wanted done. I told here I wanted 16 ga piercings in both my lobes. To which she replied "You want hoops in them, right?" and I responded "Yep, CBR's." A small look of astonishment went over her face and she said "Wow, not many people know that terminology," but I had done my research :P.

Angela then went and got everything ready, and then she called me to a room. I walked in feeling a mixture of excitement and nausea. My hands were shaking and I was rearing to get it done. Angela marked my ears and I agreed on the placement of them. After reading about piercings everything said "You may feel a small pinch, and that's it!" Small pinch my ass, it was like someone was ripping my lobe in half, but only for about half a second, and BAM it was done. Then she did the left ear, and it was over.

She went over what needed to be done to keep it clean and outlined everything for me. She answered all my questions perfectly and I was on my way. That was about 4 hours ago, and as I look into the mirror I love it so much. Those 8 years of waiting were definitely worth this moment. Everything was perfect and easy, now I just need to take care of it, which I think I can handle. Getting my ears pierced was one of the best experiences of my life, hands down. Props to Visions too for doing an amazing job and making the whole process a breeze.

I got him and everybody I showed them to complimented me, and even though I did it for myself it felt good :P. I have yet to show my step-dad yet or anybody else in my family, but I'm pretty sure I can deal with it. Conformity sucks, but sometimes you just have to deal with it. :/
