Ok, so a few months ago I wrote about my experience of getting a surface tragus one month after the fact. Well, it has been around six months ago, and it hasn't rejected, but I'd like to talk about the problems I've had in the healing process so far...I actually had to get them corrected the other day.

Since I trust my piercer with my life, he's totally awesome at what he does, I decided to go to him and get a vertical surface piercing, since, needless to say, it is a beautiful piercing.
It went extremely well, I didn't even bleed or anything, and it looked great. The balls on each end were a tad big for my face, but I liked it that way.
Cut to two months later. Its fine, but one night I wake up clawing at my face (I have no idea why I was doing this!) and the bottom hole was bleeding. I did a saltwater soak and went back to bed. For the next few weeks, I was terribly scared that it would reject...but it didn't.The only evidence of my mishap was a reddish tint to the bottom hole. But slowly, the bar started to show more and more. I know what you're going to say, "Well, duh, it was rejecting!"...Except it wasn't. The bottom hole was pulling down because it was exerting too much weight. And although the bar was showing, there were no signs of a rejection trail, and for the most part, it looked decent.
Well, the other morning, I cleaned some crusties off and decided I couldn't stand having the bar sticking out so far and being so obvious. I called my piercer and he told me to come in and he'd shorten the bar for me.
When I got there, he was like "whoa, how did that much of the bar come out?" I told him about the healing process, and he blamed the tearing incident. But he did say that it definitely wasn't rejecting, but it was strange that it wasn't, and that I was VERY lucky.
So he took it out and put a new shiny plastic tygon piece in, that was much shorter and much better fitted. He also put on significantly smaller balls...This sounds like a simple procedure, but it wasn't, only because the clamps really hurt when he was trying to get the tiny balls on, and when he took out the original jewelery, all this blood came out of the piercing. But it was watery blood because it was half lymph, so it was all over. Ick. But basically I left with blood trailing down my face. I didn't mind at all, because I'm weird like that. But after he put the jewelery in, blood aside, the holes were very red and irritated. He told me that this would go away. He also said because of my near bout with rejection before, and how the jewelery was still able to stand its ground, I would probably be able to keep it. Especially because he put the more flexible tygon in.
So now, a day and a half later, most of the redness on the top hole has gone away, but the bottom is still very red. But despite its redness, I can tell that it has gotten less red than when I got it in, so I think the skin is getting over the irritation. I really hope that it works out this time around. I mean, it pretty much worked out last time, but the bar sticking it was an aesthetic issue and I had to repair it.
Other than that, I'm a pretty happy camper at the moment. If this heals, I can't wait to get more surface piercings.
If not, well, I can always shell out the money for microdermals(I want to try this either way!)
I think I'm going to wait about two weeks for the redness to go away, he told me to follow up with him in three weeks anyway...
Regardless, I will write another experience...soon if it rejects, but hopefully later if it heals.
By the way, if you get this piercing, make sure to be very gentle with it. You can probably avoid the entire situation written above by cleaning it and keeping it out of harm's way. And make sure you go to a good piercer. Me and my friend both got surface piercings at exactly the same time, and three months later, hers had fully rejected and mine was still fine. They were different piercings, but from what I understand, hers was one of the more heal-able. But maybe if she had gone to my piercer it would have worked out better.
