It had been about 6 months since my last piercing, my tongue, and I felt that it was definitely time for a new piercing. I had been thinking about all the different piercings, and ones that I liked and ones that I didn't, but for me, I was interested in the less common piercings. A friend of mine had several piercings in her ears, and the first time I saw her rook I fell in love with it. The day that I went to get it done, I had not intended on getting a piercing, rather it was supossed to be a shopping day for a friend and I, but we thought it would be fun to get matching piercings. I thought about which piercing I wanted to get, and I remembered my friends rook piercing, so I mentioned it and my friend agreed that she liked it, and we decided to get it done.
At A Glance Author anonymous When A week ago Artist Robyn Studio Yonge Street Tattoos Location Toronto, Ontario We went down to Yonge and Wellsley, to Yonge street tattoos where I get all of my piercings done, and we booked our piercings with my usual piercer Robyn, who is just amazing. We decided that I would go first because I had a little more experiences with piercings, so I could give her some advice and stuff after I had gotten it done. Robyn took me up to the room and we spent some time catching up and laughing, and finally it was time to get down to business. She took a look at my ear and thought about where the piercing would be placed, I have really small ears so it was a little tricky, and she made some dots where she thought it would look nice. I took a look in the mirror and gave her the good to go, and we got the whole thing started.
She clamped my ear and took a few minutes to make sure that the positioning was perfect, because with the risk of migration she wanted to make sure it wasn't too close to the edge of my rook. She promised me that she wouldn't surprise me, that she would let me know exactly when it was coming so that I could be ready, because in complete honesty I was freaking out. She told me she was ready, and I took a nice deep breath, and in a couple seconds she told me the needle was in. I have a pretty good pain tollerance, but I definitely felt it, only for about a minute or so though. She pushed the needle through and inserted my captive bead ring, and gave me a couple seconds to breath before she closed the ring and put the bead on. The pain was tollerable and subsided once the whole process was done, but about 5 minutes after it was finished it felt really hot, which Robyn had warned me about. When it was all finished I was really excited and I couldnt wait to get downstairs to show my friend, who was waiting patiently for her turn.
It's been a little over a week now, and it's healing up nicely, but for those of you who are thinking about getting your rook pierced, I warn you, it was not an easy healing process. I actually got really scared for a couple of days because the pain was so intense that I thought something was wrong. I called the studio and spoke to one of the piercers and she reasured me that hers was really painful too, and that most likely nothing was wrong. That intense pain lasted for about 2 days around the 3rd day after I got it pierced. Now, it's painless and easy to clean (because while I was in the painful stage of the healing process, I dreaded cleaning it because touching it made overwhelmed with pain which actually made me sick to my stomach.) Hopefully for anyone else who gets it done the healing process won't be as uncomfortable, keep in mind everyones body deals differently with new piercings, but I definitely recomend that durring the healing process you train yourself to sleep either on your back, or on your side which doesn't have the piercing, as sleeping on it tends to irritate the little guy.
I couldn't be happier with my new piercing, and though it was a painful ride, it wasn't painful enough to discourage me from more piercings, and I actually have plans to, in a couple of weeks, get my daith pierced on my opposite ear! I would highly recommend a rook piercing to anyone who is thinking about it, and I want to reasure everyone that although my experience was painful, yours might not be! My friend with whom I got the piercing said that she wasn't in quite so much pain, but it still hurt. If getting your rook pierced is something you're thinking about getting, then right on, I would say do it, because I love mine and I would say that the pain it took to get me to where I am in the healing stage was totally and completely worth it.
