When I first saw what an Industrial looked like, I fell in love. It doesn't matter what style you rock, an industrial looks good in any ear. I think it looks glamorous and fierce and it makes the person who has it look brave and fashionable.

- Being only 16 at the time, I knew that the only way I would get my Industrial was through some talks with my parents. I printed out a picture and some of the stories on this web site to show to my mom and dad. At first, they did not like the whole idea of me getting one, but after a few weeks of me begging, they caved in and said i could get it if I paid for it. I called the tattoo and piercing place where my friend had her industrial pierced and they told me it would cost around $70 to get it done. I was so happy, because I had 100 dollars left over from my birthday. It was all set with my parents.
Step two: Convincing myself.
- I have two ear lobe piercings in each ear, and also my cartilage pierced in my left ear. The only thing that was stopping me from driving down to the piercing studio was myself. I was so nervous about the pain. I had heard that an Industrial is one of the most painful piercings. I was so nervous about dealing with this pain, so I kept putting the piercing date off. I asked my friends about their experiences and they all told me that it hurt, but that the pain was different for each person. After about a month of contemplating this piercing, my friend and I drove down to the studio with our parents in the car behind us, and just went on with it.
Step three: The piercing.
- I met my piercer, and I felt so relaxed with her. She was so mellow and nice. She made me feel calm and relaxed. She told me all about what was going to happen and how long it would take. She sat me down in the piercing chair and began cleaning my ear. She marked the holes and showed me how it would look. I was so nervous. The butterflies in my stomach were almost unbearable. She told me to lay down and relax. She lined up the needle to the first hole and told me to take a deep breath. She put the needle through very quickly. I heard a popping noise and i felt a rush of heat to where the needle was. I was so surprised that I didn't scream. It didn't hurt as much as i thought it would. I was so happy. All that fuss for a little pinch. She slid the barbell through the first hole. I felt that. It didn't hurt all that much, but I could feel the jewelery being pushed through the hole. After that was done, she lined up the second hole and I took a deep breath as she put the needle through the second hole. This hurt even less than the first. The worst part was when she put the rest of the barbell into the second hole and screwed on the balls. Ouch. That was the worst part, only because I was anxious to see how it looked and it took quite a while for her to clean the area up because my ear was bleeding. She told me I was done and I jumped out of the chair and I almost hugged her. It looked amazing!
Well, it's been one day since I've had my piercing and I absolutely love it. I've been cleaning it every four or five hours with purified sea salt water. I also clean it with a dial soap and water mixture. It isn't that sore at all. The only time I felt pain was when I hit it getting into my car. It bled all the way home from work and it was sore the rest of the night. Today, it feels so much better and the swelling went down a lot. The first night with it went really well. I don't usually sleep on my left side, but because my industrial was on my right ear, I was forced to sleep on my left side, which was very uncomfortable, but I'm sure I will get used to it sooner or later.
The only problem that I think I will encounter with my new Industrial is my hair. I have long hair and I'm afraid it will get wrapped around the barbell. It has already happened like 4 times within the 24 hours I have had it.
If you want this piercing and you are holding back because of the pain, seriously don't even worry. It doesn't hurt that much. Everyone makes it out to be the worst experience ever, but belive me, if I can tolerate that pain, anyone can.
