Let me start by saying that my tragus is my 17th piercing so I can use the rest of my piercings to give an honest comparison to how much it hurts etc.

Anyone worrying about the size of their tragus or it's thickness, shouldn't worry! I have possibly the worst tragus ever for piercing as it is really tiny, and as I recently found out, it is also very thick, making it harder to get the needle through, but even mine pierced with astonishing ease, so I'm sure anyone's will!
So I went down to the studio and asked for my tragus to be done, they had time to do it on the spot, so I was happy! I was given the choice to have it pierced with either a jewelled bar, a double-balled bar, a flat back labret bar or a hoop. I chose the labret stud because it's cheaper than the jewelled, hoops are easier to catch and are therefore slightly more difficult to heal, and I didn't want a double balled bar because I thought it would feel weird having a ball inside my ear. However on second thoughts now maybe I should have had the bar with two balls because this flat backed bar is extremely difficult to get out, because the piercers screw the bars in very tight and I can't get a grip of the flat part to unscrew it!
So as the guy got my bar out I was pleased to see him put it in the autoclave, always make sure you know everything has been steralised and the studio in general looks clean, and that the piercer puts gloves on etc.
After everything was set up, I had to lay down on the couch making it easier to get to my tragus. I decided to have a 1.2 gauge as I think 1.6 is a little too big in a tragus, especially my little baby one! Now onto the fun part, the actual piercing! The clamps were put on, and as usual I didn't feel them, not really sure why people make such a fuss over the clamps, never noticed them personally, but maybe that's just me! As the needle was going through it got stuck because apparently my tragus is very tough! It took a couple of attempts and a lot of force, the guy really had to ram it through, but it made it eventually! Screwing the tiny little ball on was probably the hardest part of the procedure because big man hands + tiny little ball = not easy! After dropping the ball in my ear and a bit of fiddling round, it was on finally. I looked in the mirror and liked it even more than I thought I would, it's in a really nice positioning and looks quite cute. So I payed (this one cost £30), got the usual aftercare sheet, which suggests to use saline solution, but with all my piercings I have found warm, salty water to be just as effective.
The pain of this piercing was minimal, even with mine being difficult, it felt about the same as having the top bit of your ear pierced with a normal sized earring, but taking into account that mine was more difficult to pierce than most, I guess it would be even less painful for most people!Saying this though, I obviously cannot garantee it won't hurt because people have different tolerance levels to pain, so judge best for yourself on previous experiences. I, apparently have quite a high tolerance to piercings as I've never even winced at a piercing, or tattoo, where as some people find them very painful.
Having had a few cartillage piercings before I expected it to swell quite bad and be a total pain to sleep on for a few months (or in the case of my industrial, being a pain for 12 months and nearly cutting my ear in half , but that's another story!)However, I couldn't have been more wrong. It was ever so slightly swollen for about 2 hours, and I could sleep on it the same night, I couldn't believe my luck!I've still only had it done for 3 days now and I can't even feel it at all, it definitely is the best piercing I've ever had! Only problem is now working out how to get the bar out to change it, because my tragus is so small, the bar is too far in my ear for me to grip it with my fingers, so any suggestions on how to get it out would be appreciated!
All in all this is a piercing I would highly recommend, it's easy, pain free and looks really cute, happy piercing!
