When I was in the forth grade I got my first standard ear piercing in the lobes. And as far as I can remember that's about the same time I wanted to get my cartilage pierced.

For the longest time my parents told me there was NO WAY i was getting a cartilage piercing, "it wasn't ladylike." But that didn't stop me from asking. Well, actually begging.

One day after 8th grade graduation, I asked if I could get my cartilage pierced as a graduation present. And my dad said, maybe. When he said this I knew it was going to be a yes because every time I even mentioned cartilage piercing, he would say no, you cant get it. Well, by the end of the week, he said that it was OK if I got it pierced. I was so exited. I started calling all the tattoo shops in the local phone book to see if they did cartilage piercing, but all the ones that did said you had to be 16 or older, even with parental permission. I really thought that was messed up, because every where I have read online said to get cartilage pierced with a needle, but it was really hard to find a place that would do that on someone younger that 16. Finally I called Kiss of Steel and they said they would do cartilage piercing on people over 12 or 13. I was super happy to hear this.

Six days after my dad said yes, he was ready to take me. We got in the car and drove up to Kiss of Steel. I was SO ready to get this piercing. When we got there the guy behind the counter said that we needed my birth certificate along with my school id. And of coarse we didn't bring either. But he said we could look at the jewelry. I picked out the ring that I wanted for when we came back the next day. He said that I get pierced with a 16 g so that I could get surgical steel jewelry for it since its much better the body.

The next day July 6th, my dad and I drove up to Kiss of Steel again. I was really really nervous, and a little scared. So once we got inside, paper work was signed, id's were looked at, jewelry was picked out, and we were ready to go. The guy who pierced me I believe owned the shop, his wife worked there, and he had an apprentice. He and his workers took me and my father into a back room that was very clean. Everything was autoclaved and packaged up. He introduced himself, his wife, and his apprentice. They were very friendly and nice. I felt really comfortable. He had me sit down in chair that you could made into a bed, it folded down. He cleaned my ear and marked a spot. I looked at it and asked for a little higher. He marked a new spot and it was prefect. We were ready to go. He got the jewelry and piercing supplies and set them down on the tray. I did not look down because I had no desire to see the needle that was about to pierce me. He changed his gloves and walked back over to me. At this point I had my eyes closed. He told me to take a deep breath. Counted to there. and told me to breath out. I felt the needle go threw, it just didn't hurt. he told me to take another breath and to let out as he put the ring in. There was no pain as he put the ring in either. he asked me if my ears were ringing or if I was dizzy, I wasn't. He told me to go take a look in the mirror. it was PERFECT. I went and sat down again.

We started going over care instructions and about two minutes into that I started feeling funny, and the bottles on the counter started looking weird. And I guess I made a face because, right after things started looking odd. the guy goes "she's going out!" and reclined the chair. I fell back and I was out, but just for a few moments. His wife got me a cup of water. I felt my eyes flutter and he told me to keep them open, I did. he asked my name and my birth day, and I responded fine. The cup of water made me feel a lot better. a few moments later I was ready to sit up again. He finished going threw after care instructions. we thanked him shook his hand and left.

Im really impressed by how clean the place was. The staff was very friendly, and really knew what they were doing. Thanks guys.
