A few months ago, I started looking into microdermals, and after a lot of research I decided on getting one in my chest. I found an artist, and made an appointment.

I didn't know the artist; he'd never worked on me, and the work of his I'd seen was less than impressive. I wasn't impressed about how he spoke to me, and how little he seemed to care about his customers, not like the team at Cold Steel. (I'm not going to name him obviously, I don't want to be sued for slander, and its not very nice) However, these doubts were bothering me so much that I went up to Cold Steel first, to talk it over with Koz, whos knowledge I trust completley. Thankfully, he spent half an hour explaining to me why it wasn't such a good idea, and convinced me not to do it. So now I have £50 extra to spend in Camden. I thanked him and profusley and left. Now I don't have a tiny jewelled time bomb, ticking away in my chest.
Walking round the markets, the money was burning a hole in my pocket, and the itch to get something new was back. But what could I get? I spent about an hour over some sweet and sour chicken and egg fired rice, discussing with Adam (my then boyfriend) what I should get, and what I could get without angering my mum. Anything facial was out, and so was my tounge, partly because it would upset my nana, and also I have braces. Any genital work or nipples was also out because I'm still 17. I thought about some surface work, but nothing really stuck out to me, apart from a sternum, which I know I would have problems with, due to the lack of skin covering my chest.
We were stuck, so we headed up to Cold Steel and asked for their advice. After about 20 minutes I settled on a rook. I payed my deposit and went to get a drink and chocolate whilst Koz set up. After I returned, Koz checked my ear to make sure I would be OK with a rook, and got all excited, and asked me to get a daith, as apparently I had the perfect ear for it. I shrugged and agreed. After all, the expert knows best, and I hardly had my heart set on the rook.
We went up stairs and he explained everything to me, and marked me up. After I checked that the placement was perfect (even though I could hardly see it) I lay down on the table. Koz told me that it was a relativly difficult piercing, and I had to stay very still, no matter how much it hurt. And it would hurt.
The actual piercing was slightly painful, enough for me to scrunch up my face and say ouch, but nothing more. The jewellery insertion seemed to take forever, and however much I could feel going through my ear, he always said, just the ring to put in now. It seemed like an awul lot of very uncomfortable tugging. No pain just discomfort.
After about five mintues on the table, I'd been cleaned up and ready to go. Koz told me that he went to wipe the marks off, and there was none left. He'd got it dead on, and apparently it was perfect. To be honest, I wouldn't know, but he seemed excited about it, so I was happy. Besides, it looked gorgeous.
Koz wanted to take a picture of it for his new portfolio, but didn't have his camera, so I told him I'd come back soon, so he could take as many as he wants.
He explained all the after care to me, gave me a free bottle of aftercare solution, and checked out my tragus, which had been done a few months before, which was healing wonderfully, despite me falling seriously ill, the day I got it.
A few days later I brought the staff some cake, to say thank you for the advice and great piercing, (tips are so impersonal), and went yesterday to get the picture taken, and my septum stretched. We also discussed doing some experimental work, and some really cool stuff on my ears. Hopefully, over time, I'll be able to start some surface work, and have Koz experiment with anchoring piercings behind scars, which he was talking about.
I was so impressed with the staff there, all are happy to chat about anything and make you feel so relaxed. I value their opinions, and wont do something if its not gonna be right. Everything was clean and sterile, and I've never seen anyone change gloves so much. So thank you Cold Steel, you're the best!
