I was about eleven when I started getting into piercings but of course, my mom would never let me get any because of my age. At that age, I already had my lobes double pierced and that was all my mom would allow. When I was thirteen, I discovered a piercing that I absolutely loved...

It was an industrial piercing.

I decided I would harass my mom until she finally let me get it. It took a long time, but she finally agreed to let me do it for my fourteenth birthday. She didn't want to take me, so she got my dad to. My dad is a friend of Steve Peace, the owner of Immaculate Concept. He called in to book an appointment and to get information on what was about to happen to my ear. Bad news... You had to be sixteen to get the piercing done! I died a little inside when I heard that, actually.

But, gladly, my dad, being friends with the owner, got them to make an acception for me. I don't think I should be telling people this part of the story, haha.

Initially, my best friend was going to come with me but she couldn't after all. I was pretty disappointed at first because I was looking forward to having her there for comfort. I just had my dad and my stepmom.

It was about 7:30 when they came to pick me up at my mom's house. My mom was stressing the fact that she didn't want the bar to be too big so after around ten minutes of listening to her rant, we left. The drive seemed very short and in what seemed like seconds we were parking next to a building on Seventeenth Avenue with a big sign displaying the name, Immaculate Concept. The piercing parlor was right above a restaurant, my stepmom and I joked about the people eating having to hear the screams of people getting tattoos and piercings upstairs. We walked through the door into what looked like it could have been a house at one point. It was a very nice place to be. It was clean, and welcoming.

My dad filled out some forms while my Stepmom and I looked at some body jewelry. Soon enough, I was sitting on a chair listening to the piercer talk about how I should clean the piercing. I started getting very nervous because I read a lot of stories on this website about how much the piercing would hurt. People said it was the worst pain they had ever experienced and that you would cry like a baby. The piercer, Miza, got a bunch of things that were sealed with paper out of a cupboard. The needle and everything else were all disposable.

I shut my eyes tightly as she asked if I was ready. I calmly told her I was, even though that was a lie. I felt the needle go through my ear, and I was expecting the worst. But to my surprise, it didn't hurt at all. Maybe it was because I was expecting excruciating pain, maybe it's because it really doesn't hurt! I'm not sure, but it was nothing. She poked the needle through the next place, this time closer to my head. That one hurt a bit more, but it really wasn't bad. The equivalent of stubbing your toe, maybe.

Miza put the rings in and told me to come back in three months for the bar. I was hoping she could put it in right away, but she sad it wouldn't heal as quickly or as thoroughly as it would with the rings.

It cost a lot; $90 for the piercings, the rings and some cleaning stuff and it's going to cost another $60 for the bar. Pretty expensive birthday present, if you ask me.

I couldn't wait to go to school the next day and show all my friends my new piercing.

It's now Monday, four days after I got it, and it hasn't caused me much trouble. I've had a water fight, been to sleepovers, slept and done my hair with no problem. The cleaning process is beyond easy and the cleaning stuff they gave me smells really good. My friends seemed impressed and I think I may have encouraged them to get some cartilage piercings for themselves. Uh oh parents! I'm the only one at my school with this piercing which makes me stand out a little more.

If only my friends were a little less reckless...

I just wish they would stop running into me and hitting me right in the ear. That hurts more than the piercing itself, haha.

So, if you were thinking about getting an industrial piercing, then you should go for it! It doesn't hurt the slightest bit, this coming from the mouth of a girl who just turned fourteen!! I absolutely love my new piercing, and I can't wait to get more.

Uh oh, mom!!
