Whenever my cousin and I get together, even though she is 37 and I'm 19, we always cause trouble. This time we decided that I would get a new piercing and she would get a tattoo.

So the day after my 19th birthday, November 10th 2006, we decided that we were going to go. It was a Friday and after my classes I went back to my dorm to wait. I took a nap and looked around on here at rook piercings because that is what I decided I would be getting pierced. Finally, around 3:30, my cousin got off work and came to pick me up.
When I got into her soccer mom mini van, I noticed that she brought her 6 year old son and the neighbor girl who was about the same age. We decided to try this studio close to my school because we had both heard good reviews about it. We pulled into the parking lot and walked into the studio. We must have looked confused because the tattoo artist said to my cousin "You can come in, we don't bite".
A lady came over to talk to me and I told her that I wanted to get my rook pierced. She then asked me if I was at least 13. My cousin and I both laughed and said I was 19. The shocked look on her face was priceless. I know I look a little young for my age, but not that young. She then took my id and got some paperwork for me to fill out.
The piercer finally called me back to the room & had me sit down. I was wearing my Hello Kitty hoodie that day and he said that I looked really happy to be there. His friendliness made me feel a lot more comfortable and calmed any nerves that I did have. The lady that had first greeted me at the door came in and explained the sterilization process and the aftercare that I would need to follow. By the end of this speech my ear was already to go.
I was expecting this to hurt really bad because when I got my tragus pierced I almost passed out. So I was preparing for the worst. I had also read many experiences on the internet with people saying their rook was horrible and hurt so bad. The piercer decided he was going to try something new on me. He decided to bend the needle instead of leaving it straight. I was okay with this and he proceeded. He put the needle through. It was a very slow process because of the bent needle and he decided he wouldn't do that again. But it really didn't hurt at all. It stung a little but that's all. He got the jewelry in and I had to stay an extra 10 minutes because I bleed a lot. I decided to ask them if I really looked 13. Both of them agreed that I looked younger than 19. The lady explained that it was because I wasn't wearing that much makeup and I came in with little kids. I laughed because no one really believes that I'm 19.
I finally stopped bleeding and went out to the waiting room to see what was up with my cousin's tattoo. She was then called upstairs and I went up too. I sat with the piercer and the kids and watch my cousin get her tattoo. It took about 5 minutes because it was very small. We went down and paid and left the studio. We both agreed that it was a great experience and we really liked the studio. I was impressed with how friendly everyone was and how clean the shop was. I felt welcomed there and I knew that if I would ever get anything else done, I'd go here.
Since I was away at college, I couldn't run home and show my parents. But every time I do something like this, I feel that I need to tell my parents. I'm not sure why, but I do. So I called my mom and told her all about our trip and my new piercing. I had mentioned it before, but I don't think she really considered it. To my surprise, she didn't really care. She just told me to take care of it and make sure I didn't get an infection.
After calling my parents, I went over to my boyfriend's dorm to show all my friends my new piercing. Everyone that I showed was either confused or disgusted. But all of them thought that it probably hurt. It makes me laugh when people don't understand my piercings.
The healing process wasn't bad at all. It did develop a small bump after a month or two, but it quickly went away with some extra warm sea salt soaks. It was a really easy piercing that didn't hurt much and would recommend it to anyone!
