Well, I have been obsessing over piercings for months. I've had my lobes pierced since I was about twelve, but I wanted more, so I decided I wanted to get either my rook or daith done, but eventually decided on my left rook.
At A Glance Author lozxo Contact lozxo@hotmail.com When It just happened Artist Stuart Studio Otherside Location Belfast I arrived at the Otherside in Belfast with my boyfriend, who was getting his tongue pierced. After she told him that it would be "a piece of piss" it was my turn to tell her what I wanted. Do you know what's scary? When someone with loads of piercings says, "Yeh...that one hurts!"
So I signed the forms, sat down and waited in the shop while my boyfriend got his tongue pierced. I was much more worried for him than for myself.
About 5 minutes later, my boyfriend reappeared, and stuck his tongue at me (so nice, that is definitely my next move!) and it was my turn.
I went in and sat down on the bed. It was so clean in the piercing room, it looked like a dental surgery. I noticed the piercer had his rook done so I decided to get a second opinion about the pain of it all. He just said, "You do feel it". So I was prepared for pain but feeling a little reassured. That didn't sound so bad. I still had an extreme case of the butterflies though.
He showed me the new needle and the sealed pack with the cute little CBR inside (he only uses CBRs to do this piercing). He took out the needle and sprayed something on my ear which was probably to numb it.I braced myself. Well, the needle going through was sore enough, but when he started twisting the jewelry through my ear I almost died! It took what seemed like ages for it to go through, and I couldn't help but gasp and squirm a little - and normally I'm quite good with pain! I really did feel sick though.
The ball was screwed on, and I got up, but it seemed I wasn't quite ready to go. My face started to go warm and tingly, my ears started to buzz, and I felt really dizzy. So then the piercer told me to lie down (ad not to be sick because I'd have to pay for the loss of business while it was cleaned up!). I didn't like to make a fuss, so a minute later I said I was fine. I wasn't. As soon as I went out into the shop again, the girl I was talking to at the start asked me if I was ok, and I said yes but I had to sit down. So I sat down, and the piercer got me to go in and lie down again! He was really lovely. He just stood and waited patiently and told me to take deep breaths. He got me a bit of wet tissue to hold against my neck to bring my temperature down, and he told me to stay a couple of minutes. It was really quite funny! When I left the girl at reception told me I was really brave and said she was proud of me. She was really sweet!
So I went to boots and picked up my saline. I'm supposed to use it for a month to clean the piecing, and salt and water for the next to months, and it should be fully healed and ready to change soon thereafter.
The piercing throbbed for a few hours, and stung a bit in the cool air outside, but no more than my lobes did when I got them done. Anyway, I was distracted by how hilarious it was listening to my boyfriend talking and watching him trying to eat!
Three days later, and its still very tender. It bled last night a little during my sleep for the first time, but it's really been very non-problematic. As for the Otherside, I will definitely be going back there for any future piercings – I think Stuart does all the piercings there.
I hope this doesn't put anyone off, because for a moment of intense pain, it really is worth it, and it was probably the thought of it more than anything which made me feel so sick. Even the girl who said it was sore said she got her other one done a week later! It was sore, but for a moment of pain and scariness it is so worth it!
My mum just found my saline solution and found out though. I was doing quite a good job with covering it with my hair, so a word of advice, make sure you out that stuff away properly! I will just have to wait and see what my dad says when he gets home now. This should be fun! Parents eh?
