I guess I should give you some background first, well my family is strongly opposed to mods but I do them any way. From purposely getting my smiley infected so I could have the flap of skin removed, to piercing on a whim whatever I feel like I've done it all.
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact anonymous@bme.anon IAM SexDrugsNDOrdonez When Two years ago Artist Me Studio My Bathroom Well this was my first mod and happened quite a while ago now, and looking back it was probably the most pussed out piercing I could have done but what the hell I mean I was only eleven.
So I had wanted my (left) ear pierced since about 2nd grade but yeah conservative parents and yada yada yada so I couldn't get them gunned (as I thought was best at the time) but am now glad that I didn't. So anyway I was down in my basement on BME when I decided I wanted my ear done, and I didn't care what my parents said, so I grabbed a safety pin from my moms sewing drawer, a couple old earrings and went up to my bathroom to pierce myself. I didn't really sterilize or numb at all (mistake one), I just pretty much shoved it through it went in real easy and I quickly pulled out the pin (mistake two) and *ahem* attempted to insert the jewelry. I got it most of the way in, but because I had removed the pin so quickly, the jewelry got stuck most of the way through. I shoved it through semi-painfully, and looked in the mirror. Damn I was sexy. But now the adrenaline had kicked in and I was ready for more. I "sterilized" the pin by running it under water, and added another piercing in my ear. If one was sexy, then what is 2???? Ill tell you, its 2xSexy. This time my ear was sore, and as I pulled out the pin (I waited longer this time) some blood shot onto the mirror. I quickly put the second earring in, using the blood as lube. Now I examined my sexy ear. I felt so cool. But I was no where near done.
I went downstairs to eat some ice cream to keep up my blood sugar, and went back upstairs. What to do now. I had always thought helix piercings looked cool so I grabbed my handy dandy safety pin, and started to put it through. This hurt A LOT more than lobe, and with each layer of skin and cartilage I passed, I heard a "pop" until the last layer which sounded more like a mini explosion. So this HURT to pull out but I was already this far, I grabbed the hoop I was going to put in my ear, and SHOVED. I let out a screm that was similar to "HOLY MOTHER FUCKING JESUS MY GOD FUCKING DAMN EAR" because apparently the hole closed a little. So I had pierced myself three times in an hour, and it all hurt. For aftercare, I did literally nothing, and to this day wonder why it didn't get infected. I'm a very lucky kid. Its been a few years now, and now I have a lot more piercings, most of which are self done. I also have a few tattoos which I did myself with a make shift tattoo gun made from an electric toothbrush guitar string, and a pencil. I am much more careful when it comes to being sterile now but its still not perfect.
Ok here we go this is the part where I say, "Don't pierce/tattoo/whatever your own body go to a professional, there better, there trained, they know what there doing and that's why there professionals" But although I don't CONDONE self piercing I cant prohibit it so if you feel the need go nuts just be sterile, and overall, please don't sue me.
I feel what I did was very stupid, but if I had the chance, I wouldn't do anything differently. These piercings mean a lot to me and they are very special. One of them (the helix) is slightly crooked but no one has noticed. Make sure to use proper tools when and if you decide to pierce yourself.
Well I know that at least one of you is going to go pierce yourself after reading this so this next part is to you: Consider what you want very carefully and if your willing to do it yourself and risk infection, rejection, crookedness, keloids, and all that fun stuff just so you can have it now. I always include that part because I once pierced my hand web and lost partial mobility of my thumb for a while (turns out I damaged a nerve but that's a different story) So in conclusion, have fun modifying your body but always be safe, healthy, as sterile as possible, and overall SMART! If you are planning on being a lawyer or something then don't expect much when you show up with a billion piercings. Otherwise go nuts. =]
