Let me first start off by introducing myself. HI! I'm a 15 year old female whose mother is totally against piercings/tattoos, although oddly enough she's letting my sister get her nose done. Before this, I've had 3 other piercing experiences, all done with a gun and all in the lobes [BAD!! I know. And I wouldn't advise getting pierced with a gun or piercing yourself like I did.], and the first one got infected so I let it close, and the second also got infected but I was hesitant to let it close and thus I decided to baby it for just a little longer. Luckily it did end up healing up quite nicely. After finding out that my sister was allowed to get a nose job, and I wasn't even allowed to get an industrial, I was furious. So, as a way to get back at my mother, I decided to pierce my right lobe again...mainly because I plan on getting my future industrial on my left.

And while cleaning, I found my old piercing earrings that are of a smaller gauge than my usual and several safety pins. Me, being the genius that I am, decided that I'd finally go through with it. I'd finally pierce myself.
I went into the kitchen first and popped the ice tray full of water into the freezer. Then I signed online to read about more experiences on BMEZINE to help the long wait pass faster. And after reading about how to "sanitize" my "equipment," I went to the bathroom and pulled out a gigantic bottle of hydrogen peroxide which a filled my gorgeous red plastic cup with. ::Plop:: went the safety pin from my room, and ::Plop:: went the earring, too. After the ice was ready, I washed my hands with warm water and dial soap, and grabbed a paper towel which I placed some of the ice sticks in. I held it up to my ear and listened to Avril Lavigne sing on the radio. It was sort of like a reminder, you know? Anyways, after about 5-10 of icing my ear, I decided that I was ready. I was going to pierce myself!
I didn't bother with the marking because: 1.) I didn't have the proper marking marker and 2.) I really didn't care where on my lobe it was, so long as it wasn't too close to my second lobe piercing. I grabbed the safety pin out of my hydrogen peroxide filled cup and placed it against my ear. I pushed. Nothing. I tried again. Nothing again.
Then I decided that I should try to use my earring which I had my ears pierced with during my most recent piercing experience. I tried to get it out of the cup, but it just didn't seem to want to. It was stuck in the ridges, but after some shuffling, I managed to get it out. After I took it out of the cup, I realized that it was too small to actually get a grip on, so I knew that it wouldn't work. In the meantime, I felt my ear starting to un-numb itself and immediately held up some more ice to it.
By now I was pacing my room. With the ice up against my ear, I was trying to conjure up another idea. And that's when it hit me! If I were to open the safety pin and push it in using the ELBOW of it, it might actually work. I went for it.
I stopped pacing my room, and went back to my vanity. I took one long, hard look at myself in the mirror and told myself that I could do it, and even if at times, nobody believed in me, I'd always believe in myself. I reached for the pin. I put it up against my ear once more and pushed. After it went halfway through, I pulled the safety pin out because I thought that it wasn't working, even though it was. I then stuck the pin back into my ear and pushed harder then ever. I could feel it penetrate each layer of skin. But, sadly, I didn't hear the popping sound that everybody talks about. :[
Then, after I began to feel the point of the pin in the back of my ear, I though to myself, "C'mon, you're almost there. This is the farthest you've ever gotten before. JUST DO IT!!" So, I did. Then I decided to pull the safety pin out from behind to get the thickest part of it in my lobe, which was actually the toughest part of the piercing, in my opinion. But after that, I let go, leaned back, looked in the mirror and boy, and was it gorgeous! I couldn't wait to change the safety pin because I had the feeling that my new piercing would get stuck to it, so after admiring it for about a minute, I took out the safety pin and stuck in my earring.
Since my new lobe piercing is spaced father out than the rest of my piercings, I've nicknamed it "The Lone Star." (The earring is a start stud.) It'll always remind me of the tough challenges in life and that there are ways to overcome them.
Normally, I'm against DIY piercings, but mine has turned out well. And from prior experience, I know how to baby it. So, I guess, I stand more in the middle line. If you do decide that you'd want to pierce your own lobe, go ahead, I didn't hurt me. Just remember, stay safe, and play it cool.
**Happy Piercing!
