So, a few months ago, I was working and I noticed a girl who had this awesome piercing next to her tragus. I had honestly never seen anything like it, and I instantly fell in love with it. I asked her what it was, and she told me it was a vertical surface tragus, and that she had wanted to get an industrial like the one I had, but she thought that it would hurt more.

For the next few days, I thought about it a little, but it soon slipped my mind. After a few weeks, or maybe months, I really have no idea, my friend called me up and asked if I would take her to get her tragus done. She had never had any piercings before, so she had no idea where to do. I figured this would be a good oppurtunity to get my surface tragus done.

We went to the piercing guy that I've always gone to, he's done all of my piercings and all of my friends' piercings. I've seen tons of piercings done by this guy, and none of them have ever had any bad experiences or even infections, so I figured I could trust him, even in this somewhat risky procedure.

When I called him up, the other girl that worked there answered the phone and helped me make an appointment. When I told her what I wanted, she said something along the lines of"Oh, over the years I've seen a bunch of those migrate, but in the past few years, we've actually had a lot of them stay in place in heal." I'm hoping that's a good sign.

When we went, my friend went first. Then my piercing artist found the jewelery he was going to use, a curved barbell. I know that curved barbells are supposed to be not so great, but to be completely honest, I didn't know much at the time, and I trust this guy because he's been piercing for over 10 years I think and he definitely knows what he's doing. He spent like 15 minutes just working on the placement of the jewelery, he really tried to make it just right. He actually had to do it about half a centimeter or more away from my tragus because my cartilage goes out extremely far. When he actually put the needle through, I made a little noise out of pain, but it was over fairly quickly, and it didn't hurt half as much as my industrial.

When he showed it to me in the mirror, I absolutely loved it. Even better, it's actually pretty unique in the way that it lines up perfectly with my jawline, and I've gotten a ton of compliments on it.

So far, I've had it for about two months, no problems. In fact, there weren't even any problems when we pierced it, not even any bleeding or swelling. Once in a while there's a tiny bit of crust, but since that's indicative of a healing piercing, it's fine. I really hope it doesn't reject, and my piercer assured me that he's done this many times before.

Even so, I'm still considering going back and asking him to replace my barbell with a surface bar, even if I have to pay to order it. Even though this one is going well, I'm really not willing to take any chances.

I actually went back to him about a month after, concerned about rejection after reading numerous articles that were rather cynical on the matter. He showed me some really badly placed piercings that he had gotten when he was young, and also some ones that were just rather delicate, like mine. He basically told me that with proper care, delicate piercings can be kept, you just have to be cautious. He really wasn't being dismissive at all though, he told me if I had any more concerns I could call or come in anytime, and he would take care of the problem. It's good to know that he actually cares about his work, unlike some of the piercers I've heard about who are rather negligent.

So, if this works out, I'll write another experience, and hopefully it will. According to him, we can pretty much consider it healed after 5 months, even if it looks healed now. THe only visible problem I can see is i think on the bottom entrance of the piercing you can see less than half a millimeter of the bar. I doubt it's noticeable to everyone else, but it sort of bugs me. I think it got there from me picking off some dead skin. But anyway, if all else works out, I only have three months to go! I'm really nervous, but I'm staying optimistic. I'm pretty much counting the days going by.
