When A month ago
Last month I decided to get a new piercing, but was running kind of short on ideas, so flicking through a magazine I saw a girl with a rook piercing. I always like to get original piercings, that no one else I know has. I loved the way the piercing just fitted into her ear and wasn't too obvious. Now that's important to me as my parents are really strict on piercings, so I needed a piercing which could be hidden, and I'd already started wearing my hair down all the time at home to cover my conch piercing. I wasn't sure what this piercing was called but after describing it to a couple of my well pierced friends I found out it was a "Rook". So it was decided, I would get my rook pierced at the weekend.

When the weekend came, I was kind of nervous because cartilage piercings are infamously sore, I hyped myself up for what I thought would be the most painful thing I'd ever have to get. Just like a flashback of my conch I sat in the dentist like chair and held on to my friend Terri and Michael's hands. Also like a flashback of my conch, when it actually happened it wasn't nearly as painful as I expected! The needle just slid through my ear and there wasn't any horrible "crunch" like I'd been expecting. I got up feeling woozy and admired my ear, and then wandering around town with my mates I made sure everyone saw it at least twice and I was high on adrenaline for the rest of the day!

But Monday last period at school, admittedly I was playing about with my rook, checking it was really there, when the lower ball came off! I panicked but finally managed to find the ball. But because of the difficult position of the piercing it was impossible to get the ball back on....damn! All my friends tried to get the ball back on, but nothing worked. So Tuesday came and just before an opticians appointment near the piercing studio I popped in and asked the guy at the counter to please fix it. It was a younger guy who didn't do many piercings but he was the only one there, so I settled with that over taking the chance of my precious rook falling out. Sitting down I felt him prodding and fiddling with my ear, using all sorts of things to hold on and twist and turn the piercing, finally taking it out and flipping it round. After about 15 minutes of agonising pain I was satisfied, the ball was back on. It felt a bit loose but I didn't want to be rude, plus I was going to be late, so I left.

Then again on Friday night on the phone I felt something fall into my ear, I originally thought it was a fly (A big fear of mine) so shook it off, but feeling my rook again a bit later I felt the ball gone again! This time I couldn't find the ball and I guess it probably still is ling on my kitchen floor under my sofa. I got real annoyed and made sure my friend on the phone knew! But we could go in to get it fixed tomorrow. The next morning flicking my hair about I heard a little noise on the bathroom floor and realised it was my rook, I thought this might be the end of it, that it would be impossible to put back in, but it just slid in like a dream! It made me a bit more optimistic about my rook, maybe it wasn't going to be as annoyin as it had been. So tomorrow came and I went back to the studio on my own, feeling really stupid for having to ball fall off twice, proudly proclaiming "My balls' come off again!" and the guy at the counter replied "That used to happen to me until I got arrested!" with a nervous laugh I went back into the piercing room with the main piercer who finally got my ball back on...again! It was again painful, worse than when I got the piercing done, although I didn't really mind, it was such a beautiful piercing. I think that maybe I just got a dodgy ball or it was left loose, no biggie.

Now I've had my rook done just over a month and its healing ok, but I think all the hassle I've been through with it has messed it up a bit. It's not too sore but I have that weird kind of lump you get when a piercing goes dodgy, but it's not that big or noticeable. As long as I keep cleaning it regularly (Which, I'll admit, I'm not great at remembering to do this) and don't play about with it, it will, hopefully, turn out good :). But as a piercing junkie, I would, of course, go through it all again!
