First of all, I would like to say that you should never, ever, ever let any one, no matter how safe they say it is, pierce any part of you with a piercing gun. I had my first piercing "experience" with one, and my step mom, and believe me, your ears will never be the same. But on to my story!!!
At A Glance Author leila bennight Contact leila bennight@bme.anon When A week ago Artist Bink Studio Advanced Body Art Studio Location Tallahassee, Florida I had decided, many years after the above experience that I wanted to get a new, professionally done piercing. I have many friends who have tattoos and piercings, and I guess that I was attracted to the rook because I had never seen one around this area before. Anyway, I had heard a lot of really great things about Advance in Tallahassee, and several of my friends had gotten their mods done there. Originally, I had wanted a snug (which would have been so painful!), but there just simply is not enough cartilage in that section of my ear. So I went on to my second choice, the rook. My brothers girlfriend had actually had one (she had to take it out for her job) and told me that it was really easy to take care of because it was kind of concealed within the ear, and not as simple to catch with a brush or hat. But once again, due to my ADD we have gotten off topic, sorry...
Okay, so on to with the story-- I called up Advance to make sure that Bink was there, because he was the one that I had heard so many awesome things about, and I live an hour away, so I didn't want to use the gas and then him not be there. Well, he was there, so I got ready and my boyfriend and I got into the car and left. What an epic tale.
Now, I had gotten just a little nervous on the way there, because I'm not that great with needles and Michael (my boyfriend) kept talking about how bad it was probably going to hurt (sheesh, talk about support)... So, we finally got there, and let me tell you, Advance is such a friendly looking place, honestly. The lights are all brite and cheery, the people are awesome. Seriously, if you live in the Tallahassee area, GO THERE, they are the best. So I fill out all of the forms that the lovely young lady gives me, and I pick out a lovely curved barbell for my rook. All in all, it was about $70. Now as I am finishing with the paper-work I notice this cute little old man watching me, and I begin to wander just who the hell he is, when all of a sudden, he says, "are you ready?" and tells me to give the girl the sheet. This is when I finally realize that this adorable little man is, in fact, Bink.
Now is it just me, or when you hear the name Bink, you think of a tall, lanky guy with dreadlocks and a shitload of tattoos and piercings, I mean, come on, he's a piercer for crying out loud, but oh no, he is an unbearably cute little man with no mods at all and a handsome little dressy outfit... wow... I had never met a man with such distinction. He was incredibly professional and sweet. So, we go into a room in the front, with michael tailing behind, and plop down on a big comfy chair-type-thing.
From then on, it was mostly standard procedure, he got all of the individually packaged equipment out, and talked me through everything he did, which calmed me down a lot. He marked me up, and remarked about how cute it would look, and showed it to me in a mirror. I was really happy with the placement that he chose, and we moved on to the needly part. Sigh... Basically, he put the needle up to my ear and told me to breathe in deeply, and as I breathed out I felt him squeeze my ear, and then... It was over. Seriously, I didn't think that it was over. That was all, just a little squeeze? It sure was. He smiled really big, and showed it to me in the mirror. I loved it. Michael loved it. Bink is the coolest.
So here I am, a week later, I still haven't felt even one ounce of pain, except for when I accidentally twisted the barbell around by scratching my ear, and it wasn't too awful bad. I had to twist it back around because it was backwards, and it honestly didn't hurt. Yes, I know you're not really supposed to twist it, but it was kind of uncomfortable. But, I must say that it has been an awesome experience so far, and I have been getting a lot of complements on it already. So if you are interested in a cool-looking, virtually painless piercing, I recommend a rook. And visit Advance!
Peace out, Leila
