Since I turned sixteen a few months ago and don't need consent from the parentals for piercings anymore I have gone a little crazy. The parents had only let me have my ear lobes done and so when I was 16 I was straight off to get more done. Since then I now still only have 14 but have not finished yet! A friend of mine had her rook pierced and I really liked how it looked. I decided I would get it done when I had the money so one Saturday at work Katie (a friend from work) and I thought about what we would do on our lunch break. Two weeks back we had gone together to get a piercing each so we decided to do the same again as we both wanted more done and had both got paid. She wanted her top ear done again and I wanted my rook pierced. So, on Lunch I went to the cash point, drew out my money and went off to the local tattoo and body piercing clinic, Red Dragon. Red Dragon is two minutes away from the shop we work in and has a really relaxed, friendly atmosphere so we went in and sat in the waiting room.

As we waited our turn watching all the other people in there getting there tattoos done, arguing over who was going to go first. In the end I won as I was paying and mine would be the most painful so I got to go second. After Katie got her ear done and I went in the lady laughed as it was about the thousandth time I had been in there in the past fortnight. After I explained what I wanted and chose the ring I wanted in it she took the needle out of the packet and marked the place on my ear. At this time I was absolutely crapping myself but trying desperately to smile which I don't even want to imagine what that looked like. Each time I get something done I get so unbelievably nervous and panicky but am fine straight after. As the needle went through it was relatively painful, the sort of pain you flinch at and screw your face up but lasted for around two seconds and then was fine and didn't feel any different from what it did previously. However as it went through I could kind of hear it pop ever so slightly when it came through the other side which was a bit on the disgusting side. The lady then threaded back through the ring and but the ball on. It bled quite a bit so I had to sit with kitchen role on my ear for a bit until it stopped then I was free to go.

Katie's cost me five pounds and mine cost me fifteen pounds. We headed off back to work to show them off and everyone liked them at work, even the boss! I had no trouble with it for the rest of the day, only if I knocked it would it hurt but even then not that much. However coming home to the parents who both hate piercings was not as delightful because they went completely mad. I think that is totally pathetic but still and since then I have had another two but they have only noticed one of them and went just as mad as they always do. In the morning it had like some dried blood stuff around it but I wiped it with a bit of warm salty water and it was gone.

About a month on I have only ever had slight trouble with it. It occasionally has some dried crusty, disgusting stuff on but it comes off with warm salty water. However within the last few days I have developed a weird small lump right next to it which is basically like a blister. It doesn't hurt or anything, again only if I poke it or catch it on my hair or something. I have these wipes called "sterets" which smell like neat rocket fuel or something which I on the piercing and it cleans it up and disinfects it and it doesn't hurt. It has certainly become a lot smaller and I have been told I got the lump because I have a nickel allergy, nothing to do with the piercing. So to be honest getting your rook pierced is a really cool and quite different place to get pierced and looks great. It is like two seconds of pain to get pierced and then it is over with. I would recommend getting a ring put in it though, because they look better than a barbell and would be comfier to sleep on.

I have not yet submitted a picture of my Rook piercing onto the website but will do soon once the lump has gone. It is kind of weird but it isn't red or anything it is just a lump which is exactly the same colour as my skin. You can hardly see it unless you look up close so if anyone was worried about getting it just make sure you have a metal put in it with low nikel content, if you have a nikel allergy that is.
