***NOTE: Seriously, don't pierce yourself. Seriously complications can arise even from a simple earlobe piercing. You need to get them done by someone who knows what the hell they're doing, preferably at a piercing studio where everything is autoclaved and sterilized.***

So after having my ex-boyfriend ghetto rig my second holes, I've been kind of dying to get more piercings done. After about a year and a half of having my second holes, I decided I wanted to do my third holes. I used to know this girl in high school and she had about 12 piercings all the way up her earlobes to her cartilage, and she had done them herself, which at the time I thought was super impressive.

So this past June, I decided to go ahead and pierce myself. I spent my summers sitting in front of my dad's desktop computer in my bedroom for hours on end, and I read around a couple sites about people who'd pierced themselves, including one horror story about a girl who ended up with a big gray nerve mess thing that needed to be operated on after he friend pierced her ears at a sleep over. So of course, I decided to go for it.

I found the biggest fucking sewing needle I could find. This thing was massive, for a sewing needle (it's probably around a 38g, so it's not THAT big, but still....). I burned the tip of it with my lighter, and then soaked it in rubbing alcohol. Then I stabbed myself in the left earlobe to kind of mark out where I where I wanted my earring to go. I decided it looked even with the other two piercings in my earlobe, so I made the plunge and went for it.

And I stabbed myself in the ear.

I got as far as halfway in before I couldn't take the pain anymore. This was NOT the nice, slightly creepy but most importantly NORMAL pressurePOP! feel of a normal ear piercing. This was me jabbing myself in the ear with what turned out to be a very BLUNT sewing needle. I left the needle in my ear about half way through and since I was sitting in front of my computer, I IM'd my friend Cesar and told him about it. Instead of giving me any advice or soothing comforting words, he laughed at me, saying I was a wuss for not being able to take the pain and I'd probably end up all infected and dead.

So I just HAD to finish what I started now. So I took a deep breath and shoved the rest of the needle in my ear. This whole ordeal took about 10 minutes, but after a lot of grunt work and deep breaths, I got the damn needle through. GO ME, I thought.

Of course, now came the part where I had to put the jewelry in. I knew if did it too slowly the piercing would close up (TRAGIC!) and I would have to start all over again. So I pulled the goliath sized sewing needle out of my earlobe quickly, which hurt a LOT and then slid the earring in to place, only to find the back was already starting to close. So I had to poke through some skin, which hurt quite a bit, but at this point I was so close to achieving my pierced ear I didn't care.

Finally, after nearly an hour, I had... one ear pierced.

So yeah, it sucked that I had taken forever to get only one ear pierced, but I had gotten it done. Victory was definitely mine and I bragged so to Cesar, who was put in his place and was shamed forever (I wish).

But there was NO WAY I was stopping there. I felt pretty awesome after doing the one by myself, and even though there was a lot of effort put into it, it didn't really hurt once I got the jewelry in, and it didn't bleed at all. So I went ahead and pierced my right earlobe.

Now if I thought the left one hurt, the right one hurt even more. It was hard to twist my head properly to look in the mirror to see that I was getting it straight. And I hit a lot more cartilage and this one bled a little bit. But after more grunt work, and more sitting there with a giant sewing needle halfway stuck in my skin for 20 minutes, I finished the deal and got it through. Yippee.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the jewelry in fast enough and had to re-pierce it. Boo. More pain, more grunting, more swearing at myself to suck it up and deal with it, but I eventually got it, then I got the jewelry in and tada! I now had a new hole in each of my ears, making them my 5th and 6th piercings (Three in each ear).

It feels pretty cool. I think the one on the right earlobe is SLIGHTLY off, but it's unnoticeable by eye. I can only tell when I'm playing with them and I notice that it's slightly closer to the edge of my ear then the other, but it's fine.

I tried to do a fourth on my left earlobe, but that ended up being too close and my ear was screaming at me to stop poking holes in it, so I took it out.

I'm done with self piercing. From now I'm going to get any piercing done by a professional, because there shouldn't have been such a big ordeal about two little holes in my ear. They've healed fine, but I know what I did was seriously risky and like I said before, one of them is uneven.

And like I said before, don't follow my example. I was stupid and bored. Don't be stupid and bored.
