Ok, I've always loved piercings since I was about 7 or 8 and I was in holiday in Greece and saw this girl with her neck pierced which looked fabulous by the way. And ever since I was about 10 I'd been asking my mum if I could get another set of holes because at the time I only had one set of earrings in my lobes.

About a year or so later I decided I wanted three holes in total in my lobes and my belly button pierced. After years of begging mum finally agreed to let me get my second set of holes and earlier this year – beginning of June- I got them done and had CBR's put in.

Now I'm guessing that she probably thought that would be then end of it until I was about 16, unfortunately she was very wrong, a couple of months after that I got the lower half of my belly button pierced by sneaking into Camden and luckily I look a lot older so they just assumed I was at least 16, and I'm now totally hooked on piercings.

So anyway back to the third hole piercing, well like I said I had been wanting it done for ages but it never seems to happen as I normally spend the money. So a couple of weeks ago I was messing about seeing what I would look like when I finally got all the piercings I wanted done and I had been thinking that it wasn't so hard to pierce my ears - as I'd done it before but mum had caught me before I had a chance to get an earring in – and I decided to give my friend a call to psyche myself up to doing it.

It worked, and after about five minutes into the conversation I had a needle sticking halfway through my earlobe having previously marked and sterilised my ear and the needle. I placed a cork behind my ear because knowing my luck I'd probably accidentally stab myself in the neck. I'd pierced the first hole and was putting a stud through the hole when disaster struck; the back of it had closed up already, only the front of the hole was still pierced. Feeling much braver I simply took the stud out and pierced it again, and then for a third time, by now my ear was bleeding a little from the repeating stabbing it was receiving. I put the stud in again and it still refused to come out of the back of my ear and after about 20mins of struggling to find the hole in the back I gave up and removed the stud.

At least I had given it a go I thought, then I realised that the longer I left the needle in for the less chance the hole would have of closing up before I had a chance to put a stud in. I knew I wouldn't have enough time after school to do both ears and a Spanish essay before my mum came home so I decided to do the piercing at school. I figured that I'd have someone there for moral support and plenty of time to leave the needle in my ear letting a proper hole form.

On Friday I arrived to school with a small pouch containing two sterilised needles, two sterilised studs and antiseptic wipes, I was all set and ready to go and 20 minutes before the end of lunch break I convinced Sofia to come with me to the toilets, I was still kind of psyched from the night before and I could still clearly see where I had marked my ear the night before and yet again pushed a needle into my ear, hearing the tell-tale popping noise I wiped the needle and piercing site with antiseptic and began moving the needle in small circles and stretching the skin so that the needle wouldn't stick. (Sofia's brilliant advice, I was just going to leave the needle in for an hour or so and then put up with the pain of removing the crust.) The one flaw in my plan was that I'd have to walk around with a needle in my ear for a while but that was just something that had to happen.

Two hours later I arrived in Croydon with the needle still in my ear, (I went there with my boyfriend most Fridays) and I rushed up to the toilets to take the needle out. I was scared that two hours wouldn't have been long enough and my amazingly fast healing ears would have closed up but the stud slid into the hole beautifully. The only trouble was now I had three holes in one ear and two in the other and no time to pierce the other side, it looked like I'd be in the toilets again next Monday as my mum was around all weekend.

On Monday I went through the same procedure in the toilets again and two hours later I ran up to my bathroom to put the stud in it didn't fully go through and I was just about to pierce it again when I dropped the mirror and as I bent down to pick it up I accidentally gave the stud the tiniest squeeze but it did the trick and as I'm finishing this – two weeks later because I kept getting side-tracked – I'm sat with three holes in each ear and a big grin on my face, which was made even wider by the fact that another of my awesome friends begged me to do her ears (second hole) which also turned out perfectly and now one of her mates wants me to do his!!!

I'm so happy I've finally got my three holes, only trouble is I'm running out of ear space and friends to pierce and I'm to scared to pierce myself anywhere else for the time being although that will probably change soon.

To anyone considering DIY piercing if you want to do it go for it but be very careful and go to a professional piercer if possible as it is much safer and reduces the risk of infection.
