Alright, after gauging my ears to a 2, getting both my tragus' pierced at the same time, third holes, etc, I decided to go for something a bit more...exciting?, I guess would be the best word to describe it. I have a huge list of things I want pierced, next up was my daith. I wanted to do it on the first day of grade eleven, but I wasn't sure how happy my mother would be about another piercing. After many arguements and the same answer of "NO!" many times, she finally caved and said, "Fine, but if it gets infected, don't come crying to me!"

Anyway, I went to my favourite piercer a few months ago...the end of June, actually... His name is Dane, and I asked him, "What's a daith?" He explained it to me, showed me pictures, pointed it out on my ears and told me that it would probably hurt a LOT more than my tragus' did. Weird as this may sound, it was highly appealing to me. So I said "Sure thing, I'll be back when school starts."

So, about two months later when the summer had finished, I went back to Pins N Needles with a few friends. He passed me a form, and as I was filling it out he asked "Which ear?" I replied, "Left," so he pushed my hair back to see if I had "enough daith to pierce". I freaked, thinking that if I didn't 'have enough' I would have to get something else, which i really didn't want at that time. He then proceeded to tell me that some people don't have the right shape or just not enough space to pierce. He relieved my troubled thoughts by saying, "You're ears are perfect for any piercing". I was so relieved that I would get the piercing "of the day", as my friends called it.

After finishing the form, I got the same feeling I always get before getting something pierced...NERVOUS. He said "You ready?" I said, "As ready as I'm going to be". After a sudden dilema of me realizing that I didn't have a hair tie, I had to go to a nearby drug store to buy some. He doesn't pierce ears if you have long hair and it's not tied up, saying that the risk is way too high of the hair getting in the way, or into the piercing, or lovely things like that. I purchased my hair ties, ran back to the store, tied my hair up, and was ready to go.

So I stumbled back into his little booth, got into his chair, and sat down. As all my friend stared at me, and he said, "I'll try to make this as quick as possible." I watched him get all the needles and clamps out, watched him put anticeptic on the cotton swabs, and get out a new pair of gloves and put them on. This part always makes me extremely nervous, because of the needle. I then came to a horrible realization that the needle wasn't straight like it usually is, it was bent in a weird way. I asked him about it, he laughed and said, "Stop being nervous, this needle will help me pierce your ear easier." He then came over, wiped my daith with a cotton swab covered with anticeptic, and said, "Let's get this started." I gripped the edge of the seat, expecting blinding pain and expecting to scream and whatnot, but it wasn't that bad. It was painful, for sure, but not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It started with a slight pressure, which hurt, then it got worse as he pushed the needle through the other side of my daith. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but that HURT. This was the worst part for sure.

After the needle was through, he turned and got a ring ready, then put it through. He said "Finished, go take a look."

I got up, looked in his full length mirror at it, and a massive smile spread across my face. I LOVED it, and he said, "You know the drill to keep it clean, sea salt and warm water, same as your tragus'. Also, wait about 3-5 months before you change the ring." I paid him and left, still with a smile across my face.

It's a week later, and it doesn't hurt anymore. Actually, it stopped hurting about 45 minutes after I got it done. I could sleep on it the first night, and now when I clean it I can move it. It's also really easy to hide, because it's inside your ear. It looks SO cool, and almost no one in the town that I live in has it.

So all in all, DAITH PIERCINGS ARE AWESOME! The slight pain that I experienced was so worth this piercing. I'm now thinking of getting it done in the other ear...
