When It just happened
I've been discussing with my boyfriend (Sam) for a while now on stretching earlobes. At first I was against the idea of my boyfriend having a plug in his ear, the few plugs I've seen are of the larger variety and whilst I've seen some great looking ones online, the few I've seen not on a computer screen looked ugly to me.

However I suddenly found myself drawing my various characters (I'm an amateur writer and artist) with, low and behold, small stretched earlobes. Since then I've fallen in love with the idea of a small eyelet in the ear piercing I've had for nearly 8 years. Sam's also stretching his to a similar size (once he has his ear actually pierced) so it's almost symbolic to me. It's going to be evolving that simple piercing I had done as a 7-year-old child and its something I'm doing with someone I love.

Finally after much talk and little action, Sam on his 18th birthday finally bought 3 tapering flesh spikes. The smallest being 2mm, middle being 3mm, biggest 4mm. The 2mm and 4mm are acrylic (I think) and the 3mm is a small metal bullet. I particularly like the bullet and will likely purchase a bigger one for my finished product and of course, some cute eyelets. I've been looking around and have seen some specifically pretty ones, which actually come in my small size. This appears to be the biggest problem I'm having, getting nice eyelets that are under 6mm. Luckily though I needn't worry too much yet as I haven't even reached that stage yet.

The moment we left the shop I was opening our little plastic bag and peering in with a grin on my face.

Since I have my piercing already and I've had no problems with this particular piercing since it was done all those 8 years ago, I immediately and rather brutally pushed the 2mm into my small bog standard piercing. I rather wish I had taken more care as it hurt. With a little twisting and easing in though, it's now in my piercing and I can barely feel it. Throughout the evening it's been stinging a little, I'm unsure if that's due to my brutalness at first and my constant fiddling with it or if it's perfectly normal. Either way it's nothing I'm concerned about.

I had a bit of a chat with the man at the store (Sun Emporium Loughborough) and he seemed to know what he was on about, as did a nice young woman who joined in our conversation as she had a 3mm residing snugly in her earlobe. Seeing hers made me all the happier about what I'm doing. It looked so nice and funky.

The man advised that I don't force them in too much since skin does have its limits and will split, he was quite happy to hear that I was planning to use my oldest and least troublesome piercing. He was really friendly and I'm totally comfortable with talking to him about it if I ever need to again. If only he was a piercer, I'd ask him to pierce my nose, he was instantly nice to both Sam and me. His advice to my boyfriend on how long to let his piercing to heal before stretching made sense as well, leave it twice the normal healing time and then start stretching.

Evidently I misjudged the tenderness of my ear and tried to push my spike in further than it wanted to go. It won't budge now and it's about ¾ up the spike. I did actually take it out and I swear that actually hurt quite a bit. Still I'm not sure if I've done it correctly or if I have a small pain tolerance. It's feeling slightly sore but I expected it would.

The weirdest thing I've found so far is the actual sight of this incredibly thin looking spike just sitting there in my hair. Its looks thin but feels fat in my ear. I can physically feel my ear stretching and the small sting is in a weird way quite soothing and exhilarating at the same time. I'm finally doing something that isn't so boring! I've been finding my plain piercings very boring as of late so to be able to make my ears a little more interesting is fantastic.

Tonight I'm going to leave my 2mm in and in the morning push it in a bit further. Hopefully by tomorrow night I can wear my sweet looking silver 3mm bullet through it. I'm going to take it step by step and get it to 4mm, before seeing if I want to go any further. The biggest I've been recommended to go is 6mm since I have another bog standard earlobe piercing right next to it.

I'm really happy already and I've already taken to looking at the slightly bigger plugs and eyelets.

Highly recommended. Next Body Mod: Nose Piercing. God knows when.
