Getting my industrial pierced is one of the best things I have done in a long time, I don't have many piercings, but decided that I wanted a new one. After a few weeks of talking about it with people and searching around, an Industrial piercing best suited me.

I was originally going to get it done with a friend, but she decided not to get it just yet due to lack of money and not finding the right time to tell her parents. So instead of letting that hold me back, I went and got it done by myself. I did however, take another friend just to watch. This made me more relaxed and the procedure went better with her there.

After hearing rumors of local piercing studios, a small one in the city seemed the best way to go. The pre-piercing procedure was pretty strait forward, sign a form, answer some questions, and I was ready to go. After having my ear marked out and being shown in a mirror, it was time to get pierced. My piercer informed me that she was going to start piercing now, as she said that, I could feel a slight pain on the lower part of my ear. This was pretty bearable pain, more uncomfortable than anything. Then the needle continued through to the other side of my ear, this part hurt a lot more than the first as it seemed that the needle had trouble getting through. After the tube was in, I was shown what it looked like in the mirror, I was very pleased with the angle of the piercing. After seeing what it looked like, the pain went away and turned into a more annoying and uncomfortable sensation.

Instead of getting the one bar through both piercings, I got two separate bars through each piercing. This was it would heal faster and I could clean the piercings easier. I was told to come back in two weeks to get them replaced with one bar.

After I left the studio, I was very happy about the whole experience. It was cheap, yet still very well done. The whole upcoming week before I got it done I was quite worried, but the feeling of going through with it and getting it done was great.

Just under a week later, my piercing is going great. I have been cleaning it 3 times a day, and so far it is very healthy. One of the piercings is doing fantastic. When I clean it, it doesn't hurt at all, and i can easily slide the bar back forward (when cleaning it of course). The other side isn't as good, but is still coming along well. There is no sign of infection at all.

I have accidently bumped my piercing a few times, mainly the top one when I run my fingers through my hair sub-consciously. This is probably why the top one isn't as healthy as the bottom. When I do hit the piercings, it hurts for a few seconds, but then the pain goes away and I am normally left with a bit of redness to the area. If I have the opportunity, then I go and clean the piercing when this happens. I have had a small number of piercings in the past, most of which have become infected, which really wasn't fun. So this time I am taking extra care.

Since I got the piercing, I have been forbidden to sleep on my right hand side (the side I got the industrial). This isn't too much of a problem, but I always took rolling over while asleep for granted. I have done a pretty good job so far on sleeping on my left hand side all night. One trick that I discovered was to let my dog sleep on my bed just behind me. This was if i was to roll over, my dog would be in the way. This so far has proved to be quite effective.

Fortunately, I go to a casual school, so piercings aren't a problem at all. My parents aren't too thrilled about it, but I did tell them before getting it done, so they are thankful for that. My work forbids piercings, but I have reasonably long hair, so I can cover it up with that. I was thoughtful enough to inform my manager about it, and he said it was fine as long as it was out of sight.

If you are worried about the pain in getting an industrial piercing, don't be...it is a very uneventful procedure. The pain is very little and easy to handle, nothing extreme or even to cringe about. There was no blood at all. If you are thinking about getting a industrial piercing, do it! You will love it just as much as I do.

In a week, I will be going back to the studio to get a industrial bar to replace the two smaller bars. When this happens, I will take some photos and send them in.
