Ok, so I've never had a cartilage piercing before, apart from one I got done with a gun in year nine (I know, very bad). I've got 9 other piercings, but this would be a new experience for me. I'm addicted to piercings, and I'm happy to admit it, and so when I hadn't gotten one for a while I started looking at piercings I might get.
At A Glance Author emilie Contact emilie@bme.anon When A month ago Artist Jeanette Studio Raven Hair and Beauty Location Bridgewater, Tasmania I've got the same story as a lot of people, because of my job and all the performance I do I can't have facial piercings, I have enough trouble with my tongue, so getting my lip pierced was out of the question. A few months ago I had seen daith's on BME, and I thought they looked cute, so I thought about it for a while, and came to the conclusion that my daith was the next thing to be pierced.
As it happened I had convinced my friend to get his nipple pierced, I was buying it for him for his birthday. I have 2 of my own, and have had my nipples pierced three times (one has been retired), so he was all down with the pain, figuring if I can do it... So we worked it all out and sorted out a day to go.
As with every piercing story we ran in to a bit of trouble. I don't have my license, and my friend Des lost his the day before we were planning on going. It's only for three months, but all the same it ruined our plans.
In the end I managed to convince my sister's boyfriend to take us, so we set a date and everything after that went pretty well.
I was a bit nervous, but considering I didn't know what kind of pain it would be it was hard to be really scared. I was probably more nervous for Des; it was his first piercing, so he was a little scared... I told him Jeanette would be gentle and look after him, I trust her completely, and I've been to her for all of my major piercings.
We told her what we wanted, and I let Des go first because I'm a nice friend. It felt like he was in the room for ages, but it probably wasn't that long. Jeanette doesn't let other people in the room whist she's piercing some one, incase they freak out, or freak out the person getting pierced, so I waited patiently for Des to come out, and for it to be my turn.
When I went in my nerves hit me. I sat my self down and Jeanette marked up my ear, and showed me, not that I could really see much because of the awkward position. I had meant to ask her whether she'd be using a bent needle, because I had read some stories where they had, but it completely slipped my mind so I don't know. She warned me that it would hurt, the cartilage in that area is really thick, and so I should be aware of that.
I was expecting a lot of pain, from what Jeanette had told me, and what I had read; I was ready to hold back tears. Funnily enough it didn't really hurt at all. There was a huge amount of pressure, but no actual sharp pain. Once the needle was through the adrenalin hit me, which was good, because putting the jewelry in was a pain in the ass. Having such a small CBR made it really hard to get the ball in, so there was a bit of fiddling until it went in.
Jeanette cleaned it all up, and I had a look at it and I knew it was perfect, it sat so nicely inside my ear, and it's one of those piercings that's subtle, so it won't affect my job, or drama, which is a bonus. I paid her, and we spoke about after care, it was pretty basic, and because she's done so many of my piercings she knew i understood what I needed to do. Then Des, Woody and I went on our merry way.
It's been about a month now, and healing has been pretty easy. I did salt water soaks for a week or so, probably not as long as I should have, and since then I've just left it. Recently a small lump has appeared on the top exit hole, but salt water soaks are helping, and I'm going to buy some tea tree oil tomorrow to help with it.
It's a really great piercing, and it's out of the way so it doesn't get knocked around. I'd advise it to any one who's thinking about getting it, the pain for me wasn't that bad, it was just very intense.
