My boyfriend Josh first got his lobes pierced less than a month ago. He was unemployed at the time, but shortly after got a job that made him take his new piercings out. He had them in only for a few days before taking them out. They were left out for about a week.

We talked about it for a while; I was worried about his job mostly. Basically, we decided to give it a try, because he had to wear a hat at work and his ears would be covered up and also he could take them out when they healed.
While he finished up playing the game he was playing, I got together my piercing supplies. I had a new 14-gauge needle and some new 14 gauge captive rings that I never used. I cleaned the needle as best as I could at home and laid it on a clean washrag. I got some KY Liquid, Bactine, and Q-Tips together also. I was ready in about 10 minutes.
I washed my hands very well with Dial twice after marking Josh's ears with a marker (was all I had) on the scars. I marked them so it would be easier to see the scars. After I washed my hands, I rubbed the needle on KY Liquid. Not everyone uses lubrication on needles, but after I had trouble with my Nipple because it would not run through, I have started to use lubrication. KY is my favorite because it is water based and seems more natural.
After the needle was lubed up, I touched it to Josh's right ear and asked if he was ready. We agreed before hand that going slow was the best way to do it. I pushed the needle as slowly and gently as I could at first. It slide easily into his ear until it got to the middle. Josh started wincing as it got to the middle and I had to push harder to get it to go through. He did not stop me so I kept going. It was a little tougher to push and I had to use the back of his ear to break the skin. I had to push on it towards the needle as I pushed the needle towards it. The feel of the needle sliding out the other side was a victory.
Josh said that one just felt the same as when he got it done professionally. It stung a little, but not much. I put the CBR ring on the back of the needle and slide it in the hole and pushed the needle out. This was a little more difficult that it seems; it takes a little awhile to make sure you do not drop the needle before the ring is in. I got it in with ease though.
I tried to put the ball on but it was giving me trouble and after a few minutes, Josh told me just to pierce the other ear and we would put the balls on later. So, I cleaned up the area and cleaned the needle. I washed my hands again and set up my station and marked Josh's ear.
I was finally ready and held the KY lubed needle up to Josh's left ear. The needle slide in easily like the first time, I had to put a little effort into getting it in after the middle. I used the back to break the skin again and soon the needle was in. I took this picture after the needle was in:

I waited about 10 minutes before trying to put the jewelry in. This ear hurt Josh more and I wanted him to be more comfortable. He said his adrenaline was wearing off and he could feel more.
After 10 minutes, I struggled to get the jewelry on the back of the needle. The jewelry did not want to go on the back of the needle this time. I fiddled with it for about 10 minutes, before I started to shove it through. Josh was complaining of a lot of pain by then and I wanted to get it over with. I shoved the jewelry about halfway through and the needle came unhooked and fell out. His ear started bleed really bad by this time, blocking my view of the new whole and I could not get the jewelry through. I pushed for a few minutes until Josh realized that the needle came out and told me to take the jewelry out.
I took the needle and jewelry and put them in the Bactine and held a washcloth on his ear. It took about 5 minutes to get the bleeding under control and Josh was complaining about how I should not have taken the needle out. After he calmed down, I told him when he got his professionally done that was the way Jeremy had done it because Josh's left ear was so big.
It was about 10 or 15 minutes after my first attempt when I told Josh that I could see the fresh hole some and I could probably get the needle back in. He did not want to have one ear pierced and not the other so he told me to try and he would tell me if it hurt.
I made sure the needle was clean again and all the blood was gone and put it up to his ear again. I pushed the needle through with ease. I shoved a little harder and a little faster than last time, because I knew it would hurt a lot. It went through, but it started bleeding again. There was less blood this time though.
I picked up the jewelry right away instead of waiting this time and made sure it was dry. Last time I put KY on it, but it kept slipping and I think that was part of my trouble. It took a few minutes but I got it snapped on the needle. I shoved the needle all the way through Josh's ear so the ring was resting and ready to start going in his ear. Josh said this hurt the most and he was wincing really bad, but said keep going. It took me a long way to get the jewelry in his ear. I had to go slow and keep one hand on ear and needle (a few figures on the ear to feel the needle) and the other hand on the jewelry. I pushed extremely slow. I did not want to push the needle out this time, there was not a lot of blood but I did not want to shove a blunt back through his ear. It took a few minutes, but I finally seen the end of the needle.
The needle fell out before the jewelry was all the way through. I could see the jewelry in the hole but not sticking out yet. I laid the needle down and pushed hard on the jewelry while pressing on the back of the ear to massage it in. It finally slide in.
Here is a picture right after I got the jewelry in before the ball.

After that I tried to put the ball in but his ears were sensitive so we decided to wait until later. I put the needle on the stove to boil and cleaned up the blood and mess. When piercing his ear I saw blood coming out of the hollow part, which was weird. First time I seen that, but then again I have not pierced anyone that has bleed that much.
I had to through the needle away though, because after it boiled, there was cooked blood in it. It was all black and stuck inside. I pushed it out, but I thought my best bet was to through it away and buy a new one.
About an hour after the piercings I tried to get the balls in again. It took awhile, but I managed to get them in without to much tugging on the new jewelry. The finished product looks great! I think it looks better than when they got professionally done, but that is only because I used bigger CBR rings. Here is a picture of the finished product:

Well thank you for reading my story! Please keep in mind that DIY is dangerous and please do not try this unless you know what you are doing. I have done this a few times. I would suggest lobe piercing for anyone that has it in mind. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to email me. Happy Piercing!
