So, I've wanted a new piercing for a while. But I am never able to make up my mind on those kind of things. I came to BME in search of finding the best piercing. And thats when I came across the rook. Me and my friend looked at it, read some stories and settled our minds. The rook was so uncommon and original and I think thats why we liked it so much. I had only seen one other person around my school with it, and I wasn't crazy about it because they had a barbell in it. It looked to big for their ears and it just wasn't the prettiest thing around. So we planned to go get our rooks pierced that Friday after school.

Friday came pretty quick and I was quite excited. My friend was really nervous because a lot of stories we had read said it was a very painful and sensitive spot. But whatever, I have a good pain tolerance and i have gotten plenty of piercings before, so I was worried. My friend on the other hand..total mess. She kept changing her mind and saying she wasn't sure, only because she had heard it was very painful.

We got to Red Dragon and bought the rings. The price was pretty reasonable. It was $58 for a $15 earring and some aftercare spray. We paid up and waited for our turn. Luckily I got called in first, and thats when I started to get nervous. The lady who did the piercing was really nice, and easy to talk to which I think calmed my nerves a lot. I asked her about the pain level, and she even said it was pretty painful but of course everyone is different. I think the worst part of getting new piercing is the wait when your sitting in the chair. The anticipation is horrible.

She marked it all out and cleaned the area. There was no clamp needed, she only had asked me to lie down and turn my head. I prepared myself for some immense pain and a lot of blood. She marked the spot with a toothpick (which at first I thought she was tricking me and going to pierce it) and showed me the spot. Looked good so we continued. The big moment. In went the needle, and surprisingly the pain was minor. Don't get me wrong, it did hurt but it was not that bad. It was only a really sharp pain for about 3 seconds and it was gone. Putting the earring and ball in, didn't hurt at all. Maybe it was numb but either way, very little pain. My friend thought the exact same thing. We admired our lovely rook piercing in the mirror for a while. I loved it. About 5 minutes after my piercing but then I started to feel faint. Probably all the butterflies, but I just went and drank some water, and then the feeling was gone.

After the piercing was a little sore, and bled a lot but other then that, no pain at all. I don't recommend going outside after because the wind blowing against it was bad. Other then that, at times I even forgot it was there and when I went to lean my head on my hand, only then is when I felt the pain. I went out for dinner that night which I can say was a bad idea. It bled a lot and it's very difficult to clean. No pain, but it wasn't the prettiest thing.

That night was better then expected. Of course I couldn't sleep on that side but I rolled over on it a few times. A lot of pain and surprise, more blood. In the morning. There was blood all over my pillow and my ear was soaked in blood. So about 15 minutes of cleaning and it was all good. I can say taking the scabs of blood off hurts more then the piercing itself. But now, 24hours after my piercing, it's still good.

I haven't been able to turn it yet in order to clean it because it is so stiff and sore. But I hope that will change soon. Q-tips should are life-savers. They're perfect for cleaning it, because they fit perfectly and reach underneath as well. I usually spray my rook about 5 times a day, try turning it(to which hasn't worked yet) and clean the scabs off. Im pretty good with taking care of my piercings and I was told that the rook has a pretty fast healing time.

I definatly recommend this piercing to anyone. It's very little pain, unique and really nice looking. Not tacky or anything at all. It's hard to clean when it gets dry blood around it, but other then that, totally the best piercing I've had yet. Even for your first piercing, I definatly say Rook is the best.
