Well, I have six holes in each ear, four in the lobe portion and two in the top of the cartilage in both my left and right ear. I started when I was six and begged my parents to let me get my ears pierced for the first time. I got my second holes when I was 11 years old, my first cartilage piercing when I was 12, and it just progressed from there. I got my 11th and 12th piercings last year to commemorate successfully finishing my first year of college. This year I wanted to do something similar to commemorate the successful completion of my second year of college, but I wasn't really aware of other ear piercings.

That got me interested in other ear piercings, so I Googled ear piercings, and immediately wanted a daith piercing...but after I really thought about it, I realized that the rook would probably suit my ear better, as the daith part of my ear is small and not very pronounced. The only thing that I was worried about was my parents' reaction. They are very conservative and very traditional. I am twenty years old, but I still live at home while I attend college, so I follow their rules. I didn't want to make them mad at me or upset with me. So I told my mom about the piercing when we went shopping for fabric today (for a bridesmaid dress for a wedding I'll be in at the end of this month). She said she wouldn't be upset with me for getting another piercing, just as long as it wasn't a tattoo. I didn't exactly tell her that I was getting the piercing today. My family still hasn't seen it.
So I convinced a couple of my female friends to accompany me to the shop for moral support, as I get really nervous before I get pierced and I have a phobia of needles (surprisingly). We went to a location of the shop near where I attend college, and looked at tattoos for a while since one of my friends is contemplating getting one. Then I asked about piercings, but since the shop just opened, the guy said that he and the girl that were there were just apprentices and didn't feel comfortable when neither one had ever done inner ear piercings. He gave me directions to the other shop in town and recommended a piercer. My friends and I drove out to the other side of town and found the other shop without a hitch. I was really nervous driving over and kept talking incessantly to one of my friends. It was hilarious. By the time I entered the shop, though, I was calm as I asked about piercings. I filled out the paperwork, paid for the piercing (it was $45, more than I wanted to pay, but still, I think it was worth it!), and then was taken to a back room. I was extremely nervous and my friends were too. I held one of my friends' hands, and the look on her face was priceless when I actually got pierced!
My piercer was very friendly and helpful and kept asking me if I had any questions. I asked if it would hurt, and how I should clean it. He told me that it wouldn't be too bad. I couldn't look at the needle. I laid back in the chair and he cleaned my ear, marked it, let me check the marks, then pierced it. It did not hurt at all! I was so surprised and relieved. All I felt was pressure and then the cold metal. I could feel the heat rise to my ear, but it never hurt, never made me nauseous (like my other cartilage piercings did). My friends assured me that it looked awesome as the piercer cleaned the blood off of my ear. It did bleed quite a bit, but that didn't bother me. Then I was able to look in the mirror, and I instantly loved the piercing...
It's a little scabbed now, but I cleaned it when I got out of the shower, just with a little Epsom salt that they gave me at the shop, dissolved in water. It hurt a little after I cleaned it, and it's a little sore right now, but I'm extremely pleased. I'm worried about something going wrong, but I've never had major problems with my piercings before, even though most I got done by girls from Claire's in the mall with a piercing gun who didn't know what they were doing...piercing guns hurt worse than any piercing parlor method...
